best book i think is travel vans ,by john speed . lots good advice and sensible thinking.

I’ve got a motorhome but have a long term pre-retirement dream of replacing our family car with a self-build Small enough to get in one parking space for weekends or when something bigger is inconvenient. Won’t happen for at least two years, but armchair planning has kept me sane through Covid. My husband doesn‘t do DIY - it really would be dangerous if he tried - so I’m researching everything I can - I got both the Haynes manual and the camper conversion book already mentioned. I’d recommend both - the broader your research, the less likely you are to make an expensive mistake, I suspect. And I regularly plunder the SBMCC forum. Good luck!

Suggest you start with the book by Haynes, the manuals publisher - ‘build your own motorcarvan’ put it in google search or Amazon. John Wickersham is writer.
then consider joining the SBMCC (self build motorcaravaners club, check out the website)
lots of very good advice and build guides in that club.
many on the sbmcc build better vehicles than can be bought.
also suggest you look at some of the furniture pack suppliers like EVO design if your not so good at the woodwork.
Another vote for Haynes. they also do one for owners which is full of good technical insights.

Dont forget if this is your sprinter, to remove the plastic trim and treat the fitting holes before replacing the trim as that’s where the Sprinters start to rust from. It’s rear t9 see a 5 yr old Sprinter without rust at these points.
Yes im gunna unscrew the ply back off and pull some insulation out at the bottom soon to check its still dry in there before the furniture is fitted. It did look ok when i stripped the van out but im not sure you could see right down into the sills? The clips are visible from inside for sure where water can ingress. I think i’ve been lucky plus soon as i finished working on the bodywork i ran a thin clear bead of silicone right along the tops of all the trims. You cant see it but its there stopping water running to the back of the trim!
