Campers gone☹️

I must admit I’ve been thinking about changing. I’ve no objection or problem with towing, or campsites, so a return to tugging beckons. I must admit though I still vividly remember the day that tipped us over the edge to a MH. Having stopped in Spain due to not being able to see the end of the bonnet because of rain, we were quite literally soaked through to the skin moving from the car to the van. Having said that, there’s no rule that says you must erect an awning everytime youstop, or indeed put down stabilizers.
we shall see

Our last two "holiday" trips had to be cut short which has put a bit of a damper on thinking about going away again.

Can't get travel insurance at the moment so no form plans at all right now.

We know we should go and turn the wheels for a few miles but even the thought of that is a bit too much.

Mother in law died back in August, so we are able to plan for longer trips away, although we lived too far away to be carers it was limiting in that online shopping had to be ordered, and we were always the first called when there were any problems like the microwave being set on fire and having to be replaced or the house being cold because she had turned the boiler off and forgotten how to turn it back on.
We are heading to France for a friends wedding in May then have a further 6 weeks to explore. It will be quite an adventure, we have only managed 4 weeks before.

We are in our very late 70s. We will not be selling yet. We have just got back from a 6 week trip around Spain 🇪🇸 and Portugal 🇵🇹. It would have been a 8 week trip but my better half fell and broke both her wrists . And our 32 year old van went like a dream. Now looking forward to next year. Trying to get her out to Morocco 🇲🇦. I think I may lose that. But if not. Back to Portugal 🇵🇹.
We are a few years younger than you but not many. Mine nose-dived into the pavement in south western Portugal but busted up her face instead. We sold our MH after that but only a year or so later missed it so much we bought another! Still ducking and weaving around health appointments but hope to be in Portugal again this winter after Xmas. Keep on keeping on! Portugal is closer for us 'cos we live in France.

OHG, is she recovering/coping okay? That must be really painful and causing no end of issues.

Oh yes. I have had some real fun Helping with dressing and undressing washing and drying my better half. And now cooking and cleaning. But we have had some real laughs and good times. She is now a lot better and is now taking over the cooking again.

We've had a couple of trips recently like that too. In fact we are still working through the resulting medical complications of the last one but are getting there now. Luckily we don't need insurance because we live in France but I do know about feeling very vulnerable a long way from home and using unusual vocabulary in a foreign language. But this is not a rehearsal and we can overcome setbacks. Don't give up on it too easily. Try some short trips to get your mojo back? Very best wishes.

I'm dreading the day we have to pack in, but I am encouraged by some of the older tourers I've met over the years. Like the 90 year old guy I met who full timed in his motorhome and also pulled a large car behind it. Also a Belgium couple in their early 90s who I met in the algarve and had driven from Belgium after taking only one overnight stop.

At the moment we can't even face doing short trips. I walk upstairs and have to stop half way to get my breath back (the result of covid) so packing the van would all fall on Martin and he is also not that well either.......

We are also restricted on where we can go as we often have to make what I call a blitzkrieg run when my Mum has an emergency. I have persuaded her that a letter from HMRC is not an emergency and can wait until we are there next Wednesday. I asked her to read it to me but she said she couldn't follow what it said as it was "all numbers in boxes". I imagine it will be something to do with my Dad's estate or a notification of tax coding but we will wait and see.

I am very sorry to hear about your present circumstances. We are a long way past that phase of our lives and have even escaped the dreaded Covid to date. Our principle concern is to guard against becoming a strain on our own kids. I hope you understand that I am hugely sympathetic, was trying to be upbeat and not in any way patronising. Pity the weather isn't helping either. Good luck with it all.
