You may not do better wherever is suggested as whether £1200 is reasonable or not depends upon extent of cover required, your location (you don't say where you are), where it's kept (you don't say that), the model, year and value (no info given) and driving record.

You dont say where its parked or what secutity is fitted.
Ran a quote for the house we are hoping to move to in the not too distant, which came in at a similar price. Added a tracker to the quote and it dropped to just over £400.

Don't insure it as a van, should you have the misfortune to have to claim for a total loss you will only get paid out the value of a van! At worst you could get black listed in the insurance world for telling lies about the vehicle when you insured it.

You don't give a location or the value of the vehicle that you are trying to insure.

Sometimes it's actually more expensive to insure a campervan that's in storage than at your own home. Could be something like that.

Some insurers do it purely on post code and pay no regard to whether it is in storage or kept at home e.g. NFU. At one of my addresses it was cheaper in storage than on my drive.
