CAMC price increases

and you'd need to remember to take your powerful magnet off the side of when leaving the site!:whistle2::giggle:
I've just waived a magnet at my digital lecky consumption read-out in my house. Didn't do a thing. More tips needed :giggle:

Ah now that's where you've gone wrong!
C&MC will install old mechanical meters on the cheap so their detractors will have something else to complain about!:whistle2:

Think about it like this - you have a mileage counter in your dashboard, you cannot touch it or change it. It is possible for similar technology to be incorporated into a lightweight lecky meter for very little cost. Obviously international construction and compliance standards would need to be verified and agreed - and this would take a while - but this is the only way forward in my opinion.
Where on earth have you been living that the mileage can not be altered

Spot on Gellyneck - totally agree. I recently stayed on a site in Spain with metering to every outlet. Were people happy? No! Everyone I spoke to said they were sceptical about the read-outs. Only way forward in my opinion is metered consumption in the van with meters designed to internationally agreed standards.

As a law abiding citizen I don't understand your point.

I think you should report your information to the Department for Transport. They are based in Marsham Street in London. I'm sure they will be very interested to learn about your knowledge of illegal tampering with mileage readouts on vehicles.

Have you ever been to a pub where you bring your own glass , pour your own pint and tell the landlord how much beer you have had ?
Yes, I live in a house with a water meter and an electricity meter - both tell the provider how much I have consumed. I also have a meter to tell them how much electricity have supplied to them from my solar panels. The system works and it is not rocket science.

Having lived on a Narrowboat for a while we too had to use metered EHU points on our marina. Honestly...its the best way . You put a fiver in ..who knows ....you may use next to none? Very rarely did we have to top up in the middle of the night. We found the metered idea quite reasonable in comparison to those who were on a monthly fixed fee. Struth ...that was a price!

Kev
I agree Kev & Carolyn. Provided that the charge rate is fair and reasonable it ensures fairness and eliminates potential negative thoughts about people around us getting more than their fair share at a cost to us.

The debate on VAT is totally irrelevant to the original question posed. VAT is a tax on the provision of goods and services. Government policy determines how the burden falls on individual goods and services. If you don't like the current weighting of the burden you can exercise your preferences through the ballot box at the next opportunity.

Now back to the the question of the site fees at CAMC sites. I have no doubt that the whole leisure industry is facing a real problem in absorbing the massive increases in costs that they are facing. They have simple choices - pass the pressures on - reduce the services provided (eg. cold showers, reduced lighting etc.) - or go bust. They don't have any alternative. So we must all accept that our lovely MoHo life is going to get a lot more expensive. I think there are things that manufacturers and site owners can do with metering - the technology exists. This would help level the playing field a bit to ensure that we all pay for what we use and not for what we suspect the guys around us are using for free in their awnings and on other appliances. Harsh new world I'm afraid. I for one would be happy to have a meter read on my van on arrival and departure if the site does not have the technology.
incorrect, but I'll leave it as non of the replies understand VAT and what it applies to or why.

Not with our own glasses, but 5 pals and I did in 1970 on my stag do at a pub beside the canal at Chirk.
The pub had a part-time licence and at around midnight the landlord went to bed and left us to it.
Some time later the local copper arrived on a bicycle and good-naturedly terminated our revelry.
We managed with some difficulty to crawl back up the steep embankment to our canal boat.

Re the original post.
We've got a couple of C&MC sites booked for later in the year. Does anyine know ifthey be putting the price up for existing bookings?

Yes, that's why they had to announce it as a supplement.

Otherwise they could have simply increased published pitch fees.

Thought they might email to let us know but we haven't heard anything.

The sites we've got pre-booked for just after Easter have increased by around £1.60 / night. We did get an email on 21st March advising and the text of this is below.

We look forward to welcoming you shortly on our UK Club campsites.

Ahead of your arrival, we wanted to give you advance notice that we’ll be making a small increase to our UK Club campsite prices for stays between 5 April 2022 and 3 January 2023 inclusive.

The unfortunate and sad events which have engulfed the world in recent weeks have meant worldwide electricity costs have increased exponentially. In fact the Club's electricity costs are forecast to increase by an unprecedented amount of around 50% this year.

The fairest way for the Club to manage the rising cost of energy required to run our UK Club campsites is for all members to pay a little bit extra when staying with us this year. This small price increase will support the Club in the face of the rising cost of energy and also help ensure that we can continue to reinvest in improving the UK Club campsite network.

What this means for you

The increase will be between 70p and £2.50 per night depending on the season and the campsite you are planning to stay on. These calculations are based on a standard touring pitch and two adults.

From 5 April 2022 you’ll be able to see the exact new price you’ll pay by logging into ‘My profile’ and clicking on the ‘My UK Sites Bookings’ section.

There’s no need for you to do anything, on arrival at the campsite you will be charged the appropriate amount.

We appreciate this price increase will not be welcomed, however we would like to share that members have saved over £12.5 million on stays at our UK Club campsite network since July 2020, as the Club passed on the full Government VAT rate saving to members.

We need your support to ensure our wonderful Club can continue to operate all of our amazing campsites at the same high standards during the busy summer season and into the winter, when we expect utility costs to rise further.

What can you do to help

Below are a few hints and tips to help reduce the cost of electricity usage when you are staying on one of our campsites.

If you have a solar unit on your outfit please use it as much as possible
Make sure indoor and outside lights, any heating appliances and electrical equipment are all turned off when you go out for the day and overnight

We want members to enjoy many holidays with the Club this year, so thank you for your continued loyalty and support, and we wish you an enjoyable 2022 season of touring.

There is nothing illegal about altering a car odometer unless it is done with intent to deceive. Not that this has anything to do with the OP.

It's called 'mileage correction' nowadays, google it, electronic devices to carry it out can be freely bought. The DoT will know far more about it than any of us so no need for anyone to inform them. :)
