See post#42 & 49I don’t think I dare ask this, and there may be price differences on vans, but what sort of price range are we looking at for a cambelt change?

Adams Morley, Portsmouth, wasn't that impressed last time I used them but only place in area could get done.Would you mind telling me which Fiat dealer that was ?sounds like a good deal , does that include the pump?
Cheers
Yep, I was surprised independant wanted £800 then realised because of the wheel arches couldn't get it on their lorry ramp & too big for their other ramp.Sounds very reasonable that Lenny, especially for an A class![]()
Let your mechanic inspect it and after considering everything he will decide wheather to change it or not. If it is still looks new and low milage I think it does not warrant a change.Hymer - 2016 Ducato base - 19K on the clock
Booked in for MOT / Service - is it time to change cambelt ?
Getting opinions from friends - some say Yes due to age - others say No due to low mileage![]()
If it says a time and date to change, do it, it is far cheaper than a new engine. The difference with a car and the ducato is that fiat doesn't recommend/ stipulate a pump change.
Real data needed here. Has any one had a ducato water pump fail at any milage (and at what miles)
It’s not about looking at the cam belt it can look good and still fail due to age. I think you will find if you change the belt as per factory recommendation there is recourse if there is a failure, not changing the cam belt and it fails the bill will be the owners responsibilityLet your mechanic inspect it and after considering everything he will decide wheather to change it or not. If it is still looks new and low milage I think it does not warrant a change.
In fact I believe from experience that belts on low miles engines age much faster than high miles per year.
The whole point is Fiat does not stipulate a time to replace the pump, cambelt at 5 years absolutely yes , best practice includes tensioners and bolts that are not in the replacement kit and quite often not on the bill.If it says a time and date to change, do it, it is far cheaper than a new engine.
Thats oddI have just been quoted £450 vat included by Paynes of bury st edmunds, so that’s £200 cheaper than fiat of bury, Jaws , sorry I couldn’t get a reply from your mechanic.
Simple answer yes .Getting opinions from friends - some say Yes due to age - others say No due to low mileage![]()
Apart from the Iveco 3 litre which Fiat used, chain driven, I don’t think you are right.I stand corrected but am I right in saying Fiat ( certain years /model ) used ford engines thus cam chains
Last motorhome , a Fiat , had 2.2 litre 100BHP Ford engine fitted which definitely had a cam chain not beltApart from the Iveco 3 litre which Fiat used, chain driven, I don’t think you are right.
I never knew that, I knew Peugeot and Citroen used the Ford 2.2 engine in their vans but not Fiat.Last motorhome , a Fiat , had 2.2 litre 100BHP Ford engine fitted which definitely had a cam chain not belt
Ive had belts on cars look like they came out the box but they had snapped.Let your mechanic inspect it and after considering everything he will decide wheather to change it or not. If it is still looks new and low milage I think it does not warrant a change.
I can confirm that our 2010 SwIft E450 FIat base had the same 2.2 Ltc 100 bhp which had a cam chainLast motorhome , a Fiat , had 2.2 litre 100BHP Ford engine fitted which definitely had a cam chain not belt
