Apologies if this has been covered previously, but we’re new to this game. We have two Calor 6kg in our van and just can’t seem to find anywhere to swap our empties for full ones. I know Calor have had all sorts of problems but every supplier we try says the same - “we order them but they don’t bring them with the order”.
Is this a nationwide problem or a local one? We are in Kent.
Also can anyone suggest ways round the problem, alternatives etc? Thanks.

Safefill are an alternative especially see this thread
Especially if you intend to travel across the water where Calor is no exchangeable anyway.

I've had no problems swapping a calor 6k propane here in Hampshire. First place I tried had them.

I know Calor have stopped the caravaners favourite the 6KG lite bottles, but there is a nationwide shortage. There was a you tube video link put up on here a couple of days ago.
Found The Motorhome Mike from leisure Direct video, go 5 minutes in and you can hear the calor story in some detail.

Where in Kent are you ,an Internet search shows lots of places available for bottle exchanged.

Worth a check on campsites you're planning on visiting, as many offer the exchange and tend to have some stock in.

Not had a problem getting mine. CMC and CCC sites often have calor gas for sale. Iget mine from a local car servicing and repair garage

I was wondering whether supplies are better at sites, is this generally the case?
The ones we've been to that sell them have had them
We may be selling one of ours as new van has underslung gas
I'll let you know and it won't be stupidly priced like a lot for sale are....gets my goat folk making a pretty penny at someone else's expense!
How desperate are you, may be a week before I know

Near Folkestone, there are lots of suppliers but many of them say they order 6kg but it rarely gets delivered.
Ooh just seen where you are! We're derbyshire so may be a trek unless you're passing at any point

Yes, I had a problem back in April getting an exchange 6kg bottle from my usual local Calor shop in Grimsby.
Like yourself I had 2 bottles, I waited until I went to the Peterborough Motorhome Show and easily got an exchange bottle there.
I've decided to no longer play the Calor gas game and have now fitted a refillable system.

That’s good of you, we would be interested if you are near us, we have about half a bottle at the moment.

Serpent Motors in Chesterfieldd had swaps last year during the shortage, if anyone else is interested

If you’re willing to drive there, try Wingham Country Market 01227 720567

I posted yesterday I was with a main supplier and yes there is a problem as Calor were unprepared for the 'rush' on 6Kg bottles , they dont have any, as so many people have upsized and many people are holding onto them.

The best you can do is hit the phones and ring around and ask they you can pay over the phone so they hold then for you. the other is to replace for refillables I have to take that route but managed to get 3.9 bottles yesterday to get me through until they are fitted

Sorry if this is not the response you hoped for

I can understand that they will be short on cylinders as many many homes I work at have them, unused in their gardens. But if calor gave the money back, or at least a decent amount the cylinders would be returned. Supermarkets worked this out a long time ago.

Hi, that sounds good advice, do you think it’s a short term proble? I was pleased when a neighbour got me two empty 6kg’s I thought my problems were over, but they were’nt !
I think paying in advance is a good tactic and will try that. Thanks

My thoughts are it could be long term as calor are not focusing on the domestic market BUT this is my personal opinion I cannot fir 6kg into my box as they are too tall so I have to go the refillable route

I don’t know anything about refillable bottles. What size are they and how does it work? Also what is the cost?

Are you looking for an exchange or an extra cylinder? I have a spare that I won't need, just north of Canterbury.

If the original poster does not want your spare, I’m happy to buy it from you.

I'm lucky as I keep a couple of full spares at home but I know when I was at my favourite site 2 weeks ago the manager was saying that he hadn't been able to get 6kgs for a few months.
He said that it was because a lot of people had replaced their discontinued 3.9kgs with 6 kg bottles.
This was in Wales.

Basildog is a member on here and is fitting mine there are loads of threads running about it and various different people who fit them what I do know is they need to fit your locker - my problem is the locker is very small and you need an external fitting so you can refill without getting the bottles out as some places do not allow bottle refills but do allow vehicle refills, if you have an extrnal it can be classed as a vehicle refill

Give Charlie a ring Im sure he will advise, they are straight forward to fit but I want an expert doing it as every time I fix something a fix it worser :whistle2:

I love this community when I mentioned it various people came forward with offers of their 3.9kgs but as I have them now I would rather someone who is desperate have them.

But I may be desperate if I run out again
