Calamity at Arras market - Busted window and Carver vent.

H
How on earth did they avoid the mirror and hit the window and vents.
Guy must have been a genius
He was just moving off apparently. His wagon had pushed the mirror back on its hinged arms but it didn't break so I could simply swing it back out into position. The are no other protruding vents that side.
Not a genius, but tipsy perhaps from a day at his market stall.

Aye maybe ....scumbag for driving off though it's a shame the person who told you didn't get his number

Same happened to my colleague in Tesco at the weekend. Older woman apparently. Moved her car as soon as she’d seen that she’d dented and scratched the whole side of my pal’s A class . Way I was brought up you leave a note with your contact details on.

Yes indeed. The lady who told me what happened said it was a rental company van of one of the market traders so it would've been a long shot to track the driver down, especially with him/her 'over there' now that I'm 'over here'.
I would've left contact details out of my own self-respect, but hey-ho, I'm cool; worse things happen at sea..........

Phew! Thanks @Lenny HB .
I've just received the made to measure quote from EECO - £460 including VAT and two lots of courier charges as not unreasonably they need my broken one as a pattern. I won't bother with putting it through my insurance.
It'll take 4 - 5 weeks unfortunately but Hey! at least I can actually get the replacement. What a relief.
It must be Wine o' Clock to celebrate now (Luckily I'm still on French time ;) )I just have to work out how to remove it. It seems to remove complete with the hinge bar (which they want me to leave attached) by loosening the Philips grub screw securing the black plastic block stopper and sliding it along to the end and off the trim rail. I'll wait til the rain stops (y)

It is possible that the window may be removed from it’s hinge by opening the window so that it is horizontal ie. at 90degrees. Looking at the picture you would need to remove the aluminium top cover first. If like ours, when horizontal it should pull away from the side of the mh. You will need to have help in holding the weight.
Had my largest window (not quite as big as yours) drop out while I had it propped up doing a repair on the catches. Fortunately I saw it drop out of the corner of my eye as I turned away, and managed to catch it in mid fall! Was on second day of scheduled month away so would have been a disaster if it broke. Took myself and French motorhomer to put it back in - a bit of a fiddle, but we managed it.

If the window is the same as ours when lifted to a horizontal position it then slides out (y)

Glad you are getting it sorted fairly easily, we need a new window due to a crack near the top, but it is still usable for now (y) but I will follow the same option you are as Hymer can’t supply the one I need :( but that might be a blessing price wise (y)

How big and do you have a picture. Looked through loads earlier and a few mentioned Hymer

That's good news, a bit dearer than I thought.
Have you thought about doing a glass claim as others have suggested.

They also match the tint on the window so if the windows have faded they will all still match

You unscrew the little black piece which is a stop & then it slides off .Assuming you have disconnected the support stay. Slides either way

Yes, but then their new one fades and looks different in time! There's no easy answer. At least the OP doesn't have another window right next to this one.

Spriddler, is that a Polyplastic window? Looks like it is - if so, give Advanced Glass Products in Droitwich a call - they may well have a brand new "glass" for it cheaper than EECO. Worth a call. Very helpful firm when Mrs F broke our big lounge window

We can both separately vouch for EECO windows, since we've both used them in the past to replace different caravan windows. Both absolutely cock-on with size and tint.

What can I say? So much valuable help and advice. Rather too overwhelming now to reply individually but I am following up every suggestion. I've done little else all day but trawl through hundreds of windows on breakers' lists, made about 15 calls to fabricators and specialists and I'm eBayed out for today and have had the dog crossing his legs whilst giving me exasperated looks.
I'll give Advanced Glass Products a call tomorrow in case they can assist as Bewdley is much nearer than EECO at Halifax (whose web customer reviews are excellent) to drop off the broken (weak) window which I'm reluctant to send by courier/carrier in case it gets lost or even more broken.
My son dropped by on his way home to measure the window more accurately than I could manage with only one useable arm (a not my fault m/bike accident 8 yrs ago - 7.5 tonne refigerated lorry driver on the wrong side of the bend in a country lane reading his delivery sheet) as some of the s/h windows were within + or - 5 to 10mm of what I measured one-handed. He's a leisure marine underwriter and said (as other responders on here have done) that I really should claim so I'll give Comfort a call tomorrow. If nothing else it'll leave a few quid in the pot to buy folk a drink at the Thetford Bash
I'll update when more details.
Feeling much less anxious now, thanks. (y)

If they can, they'll change the opener for you while you wait if you call in - It's very easy. I seem to remember it's the frame size they go on, i.e. the size of the hole in the van the frame goes into, but give them a call, they know their stuff.

Hmm, well my window isn't fitted into a frame but overlaps the opening and sits/seals against the m/h side.
A slightly larger or smaller window would cover the opening but the vertical distance between the top hinge and the catches is critical or the catches won't align with their fixed mating half. EDIT - Ah, have just re-read your post and see what you mean now about changing the frame. I'll call 'em.
All my research is beginning to make me feel a bit of a window nerd. I'll soon qualify for a post as Professor of European Motorhome Fenestration Design. Avoid me at rallies or I could bore you to tears.

I'll challenge you on window nerdiness. Your windows look the same as mine, on my 2006 van. I changed all mine - just the opening part though! Mine were coming apart, a common problem on Polyplastic windows of that era, the inner and outer parts of the double glazed window were glued together on an area that was also screen printed, a bad design and eventually they part company - leaving the inner part with the catches on safely attached to your van, and the outer part flying freely off into the sunset!

I'd already re-glued 2 of mine when Mrs F tried the shut the big lounge window from outside by jumping up to shove it up high enough to go to the end of the stays and close - Mrs F not being tall enough to do this without jumping - and somehow, God knows how, the window cracked. Anyway, cut a long story short, even though the warranty claim period had long since ended on the Polyplastic problem, Advanced Glass Products got me on that deal which meant that changing all 7 windows on my van wasn't much more expensive than just changing the large lounge one on it's own. And Mrs F is banned from jumping up to close windows!

The new openers are a different design so shouldn't have the glue failure problem. If yours are of the era with the same potential problem but are still OK, AGP do a neat little kit of plastic buttons and screws plus a special drill bit, you drill the corner of your windows and screw the 2 parts together. Looks very neat and like it was always meant to be like that.

Is my coefficient of fenestration nerdiness higher than yours then??

Enough! @Feltwell , I'm humbled by your polyplastic professing. I can only make the Rumsfeld submission that in my case there are unknown unknowns.
Right then; it's time for even more phone calls and an ear like a braised lamb chop.

Yep, have spoken to a lovely knowledgeable and 'can do' lady there and emailed them all the requested details with photos. Nice :)

Vent cover

Yep. Bought it Wednesday. Arrived yesterday. Fitted today in 10 mins. Result! Thanks @M-J .
Just need to get the broken side window replaced now. I've a couple of positive lines of hope with suppliers/fixers but I doubt it'll be sorted in time for the Thetford Bash. Not a prob; I've taped the cracks so it's not dangeroos and doesn't leak. Worse things can happen at sea (or Thetford?)

Ta. Yup. I've just bought it (y). It was one of two that I was looking at when browsing for parts since 0730 today  but it wasn't a 'Buy it Now' listing then o_O
Update.
The vent arrived, as new, within 48 hrs and took 10 mins to fit (y)
The window is still ongoing though after a fortnight's efforts.........
I trawled through literally hundreds of pics of s/h ones and contacted 4 caravan breakers with photos and dims (I spoke with two of them - they only give mobile numbers), but have yet to receive any positive help. They all seem a bit disorganised/wishy-washy and two didn't have addresses or phone numbers on their website; just an enquiry form. I suspect they merely operate from a field.
I sent photos and dims to EECO at Halifax who have quoted 6 weeks delivery at £440 plus £60 carriage. I have to send the broken window to them as a pattern. Not keen on being without a window (or with a makeshift filling) for 6 weeks.
Also had a quote from Advanced Glass Products at Conwy at £574, collection only and they don't need the broken window.... (I have a sneaky feeling they might get theirs from EECO as EECO are the only firm I've found on t'web who specifically claim to be window makers).
I've taped the broken window and the inner pane isn't broken so I won't panic into getting a replacement. I'll no doubt get my leg pulled at a motorbike rally next weekend.

Thanks but they are the same firm as Advanced Glass Products at Droitwich from whom I've had a quote for £574 as mentioned above, which I said incorrectly are based at Conwy.

Although their website is named Caravan Windows.Net their contact details are Advanced Glass Products Ltd. Same email and phone number.
