C1 medical at D4Drivers. What do the jury think?

Shush! Keep it quiet😄 Yes, 72 now, but this will the last time. I’ve held HGV for 54 years and PSV for 50.
Just used now for vintage buses, but the licence isn’t strictly needed for that.
Well deduced! You’re promoted to LoD😁
You cradle snatcher!

I didn’t use my GP and I have been waiting for many weeks. But I don’t know why. It would be interesting to know if using your GP would ‘speed’ up the process.
Bet you can get an appointment easier with your doctor for a medical at 100 quid plus than you could for an illness,,BUSBY.

Good thing with D Drivers is they will fill your form In correctly leaving you just to sign each page..BUSBY.

Sent my licence renewal off couple of weeks ago. Wish I'd thought to do that. If the threatened civil service strike materialises, goodness only knows when I'll get a new licence. OH's took a year even when they weren't on strike. Not that it would be a lot of use if I want to go abroad in the meantime.
I did mine back in May used D4D and recieved new licence in eight days of course losing two and a bit months off my old licence but at least dealt with quickly😊

I used D4 this time last year. The Doctor who did the test was very good but he made a small error on the form. He forgot to tick one of the boxes. DVLA sent it back and I immediately contacted D4. They apologised profusely, asked me to return it to them and they would get a doctor to rectify it. (It had to be signed after it was ticked). They dealt with it promptly and sent it on by special delivery to DVLA. They also sent me the receipt from the postage. Despite all this the DVLA took 4 months to return my licence.

Not always true. They made a complete dogs breakfast of my application and I had to go to my GP with a new form. D4 refunded my money when they saw what a mess their Doctor had made of it. He was also late arriving and the waiting room overflowed into the car park. It was a complete farce. However D4 did apologise profusely and made the refund promptly.

If you have an existing heart related illness (my medical records say I have one but I’m not being treated for it), is it best to use your own doctor?

D4D doctor actually went through everything he had done with me on the form before I signed it to ensure it was all correct😊

Same here. I completed all that I could on the form before arriving for the appointment.
3 x lads who were there before me were busy filling out their forms, and as mine was already filled the Doctor called me in straight in.
He took my blood pressure, highlighting that it was a tad high, and suspected anxiety to be the cause, so he suggested I relaxed a little, and he'd take it later. He did, and it was a much more favourable reading. (y)

Because I am away when my HGV & PSV licences expire in March, I do my medical early to mid December and send the forms off at the three month stage, hoping to get my new licence back before I shoot off. I am fortunate not to have any health issues which would affect renewal. This year's early receipt, will depend on whether or not postal workers are still taking industrial action.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

My D4 Doctor was running so late I was left to sign it afterwards, the form was a complete shambles including unsigned corrections. I scanned it and emailed it to D4D who got back to me immediately but there were no more sessions in my area until after Christmas. I decided to take the refund and my GP stepped in to do it properly. Most people have no problem with D4D but they are not always so good. Just my experience.

Yup, the doctor in my D4 medical had been doing them for D4 for 4 years - filled the form out for me and said there'd be no problem. will send them off to DVLA with my existing Photocard licence on Monday :)
My MH is less than 3500Kgs but I will be towing a car behind and was unsure if I could continue doing this without my current C1/D1 AND, if I win the lottery I might buy a heavier van :)

Thanks all.

Self & wife used D4Drivers and my mate & his wife used them none of us had any problems. All done at Brighton.

Used D4 twice. No problems whatsoever.

Mick used our Doctor at a cost of £120 age 70, then D4 at aged 73 a month ago at a cost of £55. The only difference was the cost. Had to include a photo. All fine back within 3 weeks.

I have used D4Drivers twice coming up to my third time next week, but my brain has gone a bit fuzzy, do I just need the two forms D2 and D4 as the D2 says it is for Lorry, bus or minibus no mention of a car, and motorbike

Mick sent the D4 and D2 form including a photo, he received his license which included all categories back.

Quick Q.

Mrs Orion still has the original pink paper licence. We will both need to renew to retain our C1 entitlement towards the end of next year. Would her also requiring to change over to a photo licence at the same time be likely to throw a spanner in the works? Or should she just bite the bullet and pay the £20 now for the photo job now?

do I just need the two forms D2 and D4 as the D2 says it is for Lorry, bus or minibus no mention of a car, and motorbike
Yes, you need the two forms. The D2 is to apply for a licence that is for more than a car of motorbike. The D4 is the medical requirement for anyone over 70, or anyone with a medical condition.

I think the notes are definitely aimed at informing the drivers of HGV or PSV. The over-70 retention of the C1 hardly gets a mention.

Both of us used them & my mate & his wife no problems at all.
I know loads of people swear by them; but there are many things that some people are extremely pleased with while others have a totally different experience.
so as i say each to our own and as we find.

I can only go by the utter crap service and complete distain shown in their lack of support in trying to sort out a problem their doctor created.

I believe that in any business or service "crap happens"! its how a business or a service reacts to that when it happens defines the business ethos.

They cost me an additional £210 and worse still, over 8 months to sort out, all because their doctor made a simple mistake and made excuses why they could not simply rectify the matter.
The big problem then was that I had to prove to DVLA that their doctor had in fact made a mistake and I did not have the medical problem they had ticked on the form.
D4Drivers not only would not help sort things out, they were extremely negative and refused a refund even when the doctors mistake was proven.

they are not for me ever again.

Is there not somewhere on the form or notes on how to fill in the forms that you should check all the forms, even the doctors part before you sign the form, I have done this process 3 times with D4, and each time the doctor has gone through with me all the parts he has filled in so that I agree with what he has written or ticked

I agree I should have not left the doctor until I understood everything she had written or ticked, and not taken her word for it. So partially my fault.
It was my first c1 medical at 70 and on completion the doctor said it was all fine and completed with no issues and told me where to sign and left in a hurry for another location.
She had ticked 2 boxes in the wrong place and written the vision in the wrong format.

As I said above we all make mistakes and it’s how we react to the problem created that then counts.
But, when the form was returned by dvla and I contacted d4 they could have help and got it sorted.
But choose a different path.

No doubt they are cheap and most of their doctors are fine sadly I got the one who was having a bad day and crap follow up support.

It seems that they did not want to admit to the dvla that one of theirs had made a mistake.

Enough from me on d4drivers they are not for me.

Not for me either but D4Drivers did refund my money when they saw what a mess the form was. I had time to get a new form done by my GP.
