Been looking at some cheaper options than the CMC sits which we usually use.

The THS look good but are you packed together and are they generally busy and more noisy than normal sites?

We have a nervous dog and we like a quiet site/pitch.
I know everyone is different but have had experiences of footballs banging of the van when we had the caravan in some private sites

Have used THS a number of times, even the popular and busy sites have plenty of room. A number of sites I've been on are very large fields, where you can find a quiet corner for yourself if that's what you want.
Presently at Cheltenham and looking at moving to a THS at Abingdon, somewhere I've never been.

you need to download the out and about app it lets you put in a location and a radius to find ths and meets im not sure what the difference is
brilliant, couldn't see anything on the ccc site at all about that.

THS is what it says a temporary holiday site which will go on for weeks, a meet is usually a weekend do with one of the DA's.
I have been a member of C&C for near 20 years (and caravan club but soon got rid of that)and don't use the club sites but use the Meets and THS all the time and all over the country, they do vary but as said usually on large fields and you can get the stewards to put you out of the way and do your own thing you are not forced to join in the activities if you don't want.

We are on a THS at the moment at Seaburn/Sunderland plenty of room but it depends on how busy they get, you will always have a 6m gap though.

Oh and £10 per night :giggle:
Behind Morrisons by any chance?

CCC call them all Social Camping. They also have a special magazine each moth which you can get with your ordinary magazine, or read on line - Out & About and it is with the magazine on the web site.

We had a two old statics on Church Farm about 30 years ago before it was sold, went all posh and upmarket with fees to match! No leccy, gas lamps, drop down bed, but the kids loved it there. We installed a solar panel and battery in one, so we could use an B&W portable, and as we were living near Reading then, gave us a 12v strip light we could switch on as we went in rather than fishing around for matches to light the gas lamps in the dark. Been back a couple of times in the motorhome when attending events in Aldburgh.

That takes me back when we were young children , my father cleaned out the Farmers pig van family of 6 crammed into van for a week at Sacketts Grove Jaywick holidaying in in the Farmers Static caravan gas lamps were the thing , can you imagine any family doing that today ,yet we loved it as we didn't know anything different 🐷🤣

I've just been to Otley THS at the rugby club. Lovely garden centre next door. Bus stops nearby but an easy walk into town (15/20 minutes). Saw a brilliant cycling event one evening. Loads of dog friendly shops and pubs (except Wetherspoons 🙄).
£10 a night.
Just ask to park at the back of the field with your nervous dog. They are all volunteers who run these sites and all the ones I've met are lovely and friendly. 🙂

I've put this up before, Seaburn Camp, Sunderland, the location several groups use for THS. That is Morrisons supermarket on the right.
There are 2 water points and normally a drain is lifted as an elsan point. The site is owned by the council and is used for various events, I even watched the USSR football team train here in 1966.

👍 just had a breezy ride along the pier😏 then refuelled with chips and mushy peas, an aire here would be perfect, I just can’t help thinking that lovely areas like this are missing out on some potential business.

I have always said the same the council are missing a trick and they have plenty of spaces to do it.

Are you at Abingdon now? Curious as to how you're getting on as it's close to me and I've been looking for some more local stopovers for a sneaky night out now and then.

No, I didn't go, have instead decided to head SW towards Cornwall. Mike

We stayed there last year and would definitely use it again.
Did you know you can overnight in the Carpark just over the bridge, there were about 5 vans stayed overnight when we were on the rally field
