Been looking at some cheaper options than the CMC sits which we usually use.

The THS look good but are you packed together and are they generally busy and more noisy than normal sites?

We have a nervous dog and we like a quiet site/pitch.
I know everyone is different but have had experiences of footballs banging of the van when we had the caravan in some private sites

We did most of our camping in our van at THSs and rallies organised by CCC.
We didn't experience problems with noise or children playing.
As far as facilities go you can expect fresh water and grey/black waste disposal (sometimes a manhole) plus (but not always) rubbish disposal.
Spacing is as guided by regulations.

We have just been to the Exmouth one on the rugby pitch, that is one that you need to book though as it’s popular. Usual spacing of vans which was okay and as it is not in the school holidays then no children.
The ones during school holidays can get very busy especially the one at Wells next the sea which is on a school playing field.

THS usually have a reasonable size pitch often marked out, not normally noisy even though the popular ones can be quite busy.

I have been on 3 Devon THSs in June, all excellently run with good spacing. At one, somebody had a nervous rescue dog which was a real nuisance to other people, if advance notice had been given they could have been pitched in a quieter part with fewer people passing.

Be rude not to really although we have just invested in £1 worth of bananas  decisions decisions.
Cycled past earlier in the week its a very popular site my mate used to stop there for weeks even though he only lived down the road. Bit windy tonight hope you enjoy it.🌞

THS are excellent depending on what facilities you require. We regularly go to Porth Beach near Newquay which is a commercial site with full facilities. We do not attend these events in school holiday times as they are quite busy. If you are in Camping and Caravan Club check Out and About magazine for full rundown of events throughout the country. If you have special requirements they can normally be catered for.

We’ve just been to THS in Darley Dale Derbyshire and there was plenty of space, nice flat field with several water point, 2 toilet dumps and rub bins.
It was nice and peaceful and £10 per night
We plan to use more to use more this summer.

CCC THS spacing has to be 6mt. spacing to comply with club fire break rules.
SAMCS are at Crieff Rugby Club just now . Large flat grass area with fresh water tap and Elsan point down the manhole. Rubbish is in a skip, which adds to the cost of running the meet.

No, the price put me off, seemed expensive for a short trip.

Out of interest, can you take your van off site during your stay? Do you get the same pitch back?

We used several CCC THS last year and all were quiet and low priced, no problem with noisy kids either, when you book on just explain to the Steward why you want to be ‘out of the way’!
CSs don’t seem to cater for children so they stay quiet too.

We are on a THS at Reydon, Suffolk, with the Motorcaravan Club, (MCC). It's lovely and quiet at night and it's cheap as chips. ;)
Same rules apply re safe distancing, noise, waste, etc, and there is a bus stop right outside the site, for buses to Southwold, Norwich, and Lowestoft. What's not to like. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

If you have time I would recommend going to Aldburgh, nice seaside town nice independent shops ,cafes etc. We are on Church farm site about 200yards from seafront, serviced site ,but, shower block closed, £35 a night, but lovely laid out site.

When we were members we used THS a lot and never felt crowded, the volunteers that run them are brilliant and arealways follow "campers". We miss using them but will not rejoin either organisation ( not club ! ) again

I've just been to Otley THS at the rugby club. Lovely garden centre next door. Bus stops nearby but an easy walk into town (15/20 minutes). Saw a brilliant cycling event one evening. Loads of dog friendly shops and pubs (except Wetherspoons 🙄).
£10 a night.
Just ask to park at the back of the field with your nervous dog. They are all volunteers who run these sites and all the ones I've met are lovely and friendly. 🙂

Thanks for the recommendation Tony. :) Unfortunately, Alburgh will have to wait until another day, as we are home now, but I'm sure we'll be back at Reydon S&SC again, as it is an ideal venue for a Holiday Rally. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

We had a two old statics on Church Farm about 30 years ago before it was sold, went all posh and upmarket with fees to match! No leccy, gas lamps, drop down bed, but the kids loved it there. We installed a solar panel and battery in one, so we could use an B&W portable, and as we were living near Reading then, gave us a 12v strip light we could switch on as we went in rather than fishing around for matches to light the gas lamps in the dark. Been back a couple of times in the motorhome when attending events in Aldburgh.

Can i ask how you can find these THSs on the CCC website as I cant seem to find a link to them at all?
