Hi All
We are travelling from Dieppe
to Portugal, Can anybody tell us the Safeway to pass through
Or passed Rouen emissions zones without hitting them heading to sees for our first evenings stop over Our 2.5 ton
V class camperVan is 21 years old now you see!!
We are trying to keep to motorways as much as possible!!

Thanks James

Low emissions zone in Dunkirk apparently and thousands of Brit vehicles driving through it on the way to the ferry or the hypermarket each day
There are different sorts of emission zones in France: some are permanent (like UK ones) whilst others are called into operation by the local authorities, depending upon the air quality at that time.
There are also a range of categories of vehicles: mine is CritAir4, being built in 2002 and therefore regarded as quite polluting.

Enforcement currently relies on Monsieur Gendarme stopping you and demanding an instant payment. Next year, I believe, there will be ANPR cameras and punishment will be hard to avoid.
I've had palpitations by inadvertently driving into Aachen and Freiburg (Germany), only realising that they had Umwelt Zones as I passed the sign: no warnings that I noticed. Ignorance is no excuse BUT I got through safely. Now I take much more care with my route planning by placing green POIs around those cities: I just wish TomTom offered this sort of information!

Happy travels - Gordon

As an owner of an older van these zones are quite worrying. They are increasing in numbers every year and there is potential to stray into one and receive a big fine. I have the 'greenzones eu' app which shows them all in detail on a map. There are far more than people think.

Have I missed it? How does the CritAir work? I have a class 2 sticker, are you picked up by camera or are you likely to be stopped and a check done? Just wondering as we are heading to France in two weeks.

Thanks, I was wondering how they check it?
Until 2025 it is done by a Gendemere seeing you. After that it is camera. With a 2 sticker there is no need to bother. So far it is the most efficient engine produced.

Wish it was that efficient to allow travel in this Country in clean air zones. Bath and Bristol want £9, Portsmouth is free though.
