Burstner
I have a 16 month old Burstner Ixeo I A Class MH. We have noticed bubbling paint on the fibreglass bonnet. Has anyone else experienced this issue? We have had the van since new and wonder why this is happening to such a new vehicle?

Regarding the original posters question, sadly I don't think that the manufacturers will want to admit poor mat layup.
Perhaps worth taking it to a fibreglass repair expert for an opinion before the problem is temporarily covered up by re-spraying. If you are near the Solent Osmotech at Hamble Point Marina had a good reputation some years ago when I was a boating person.

There are several reasons for this bubbling of the paint, as mentioned above, but another possible cause is if water based paint has been used and not fully dried.
These issues don’t usually affect every vehicle made, so it’s unlikely to be solved with a group approach. If you work with grp and paint as I have you get to expect occasional issues from any number of causes.
The answer to your problem is to get a letter from your dealer after rectification that if the problem re occurs in the future that they will revisit the repair.

Forget boats for a minute......... The problem is that the glassfibre mat lay-up, put onto the Gelcoat which is the first process after mould release, has NOT been saturated properly in Resin. THIS renders the glass mat porous! This moisture sits under the gel coat and awaits freezing weather so that the water expands...hence the bubbles.

This can happen on fibre glass car panels, as well as others.

Regarding the original posters question, sadly I don't think that the manufacturers will want to admit poor mat layup.....unless there are a few Burstner owners with the same problem want to get together to make a claim. We were lucky, well sort of, as our van was virtually brand new.

Good luck anyway.
Mike, Mould release does not take place until all the layers of mat have been laid up and cured.

What he is saying is that the "release agent" is the first part of the process before the gel coat, I think that these Burstner panels will be a closed mold process anyway so quite different to hand layup, the OP can tell by looking at the back of the panel and if it is super smooth it is a closed mold part.

Hello everyone, we had the bonnet on our 2018 model Ixeo A class bubble during the first below zero December freeze up in 2019, the vehicle was registered new in June 2019 but Burstner were reluctant to help.
With only 1800 miles and not a stone chip on the bonnet Burstner rejected our claim, stating it was due to stone chips.
With the help from the supplying dealer Camper Uk in Lincoln, who I have to say have fought our corner brilliantly from start to Finnish, Burstner did eventually replace the bonnet under warranty, which has been ok this year so far🤞
Check behind your front registration plate as ours blistered here too, this was resprayed by the dealers paint specialists and again seems ok this year.
Also check your Hartal Cab door as these are blistering around the seal at the bottom, this is a Hartal issue and not just Hymer group related, this also started very early during ownership, again rejected initially by Burstner.
A fix has been agreed with a replacement seal and a re spray, and we are awaiting a booking date and will advise accordingly.
This is our third Burstner, this one is out of warranty now “2 years is crazy on a £85,000 list price vehicle when new” and only covered 4500 miles.
I tried to push for an extended paint warranty from Burstner as the paint is clearly not fit for purpose, but not a chance.
If we need to have a bit of paint here and there it’s not the end of the world, we still love it.
Good luck everyone.
