Britstops & dogs?

Just my opinion. Just Saying.

Ian

You are of course entitled to your opinion. Can I just clarify that you think I am entitled to my opinion but I shouldn't express it? Just asking.

[I have opinions on many things but I apply a filter to the extent that I express them. Sometimes it’s appropriate and sometimes it isn’t. Just Saying.] .... just to recap

Of course you‘re free to express your opinion.

I can’t remember if I specifically mentioned BritStops or just asked about overnighting so I don’t feel that I can legitimately complain.

Ahh, Britstops advises that you should always introduce yourself (with book in hand) to the host (often, staff dont know about Britstops ).

Nice try, but under the "Rules" no signed up member is allowed to divulge any locations to anyone that is not a member, hence the use of location numbers only and never the name of the pub or venue.
Especially to Carthago owners like us:LOL:

That's why I asked for the site number and not the pub name or location. My "Nice places to eat guide" is for personal use only, but could be shared with other Britstop users as a list of site numbers if anyone was interested.

Yea, I was only joking, but as a fellow Carthago owner, then maybe I could expect some inside knowledge of such illusive, mystical places.:giggle:
Have fun.

For me they don`t substitute for sites. They are more a "Night Halt". And in line with the fact that the other option would be a Campsite (or a layby), then as someone who likes food and wine/Real Ale. It fits in with my lifestyle. BTW. recently we have observed that some of the Marston Pubs, are allowing overnights, at least two within or general locality now. I assume the thinking is that we might get an extra meal or two out of "What"? the overnight use of a parking space?.

Just a quick thought / word of caution or whatever. Britstops do stress to their hosts that they need to comply with the caravan site act (or whatever it is called). Now I am in no position to say how many do and how many flout the law and I am not wanting to start a discussion about the rights and wrongs of the legislation. What I am saying is that there is legislation in place and I hope that the owners of businesses in the Britstops scheme are fully legal.

I also regarded Britstops as an overnight stop, often when we are travelling (sometimes in an emergency situation) and need somewhere to refuel and get our heads down for a few hours. Most of the time that is the way we use the scheme and it works well for us. When touring Ireland we used the book as a guide to some of the more unusual attractions and it was fun to arrive as a place was about to close and the parking place becoming empty, introduce ourselves and then settle in for the night - next morning we would be first in line to the attraction before going off somewhere else.

:LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL: I don't have a Cathago and I'm feeling left out and hurt. I may need extensive therapy for my feelings of unworthyness.:LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:

Did you let them know that you were Britstops members?

If you did, let Steve at Britstops know and he will contact them and remind them of the conditions of their entry in the book. If that conversation doesn't go well, they’ll be removed from the book.

The thing is, why allow people to stop over for free when they don't intend to use the pub? What's in for the publican?

Apparently it's free advertising in the Britstop's book, so all the Britstop's people can have a free night. Hang on, that doesn't really work does it?

I refer you to my earlier post:

I agree with Langtoftlad ’s response. Everyone benefits from the arangement:
  • Britstops customers get a directory of hosts where they KNOW they are welcome. This is unlike the likes of Search for Sites where any Tom, Dick or Harry can add an establishment to the database without the business owner’s knowledge/consent.
  • Britstops hosts get a free entry into the Britstops book with the knowledge that they will gain custom from a proportion (the majority?) of Britstop customers.
  • Britstops make a living out of the venture and pay taxes accordingly.

The vast majority of Britstoppers frequent the establishments that they visit. Some don’t but the hosts gain custom from their membership of the scheme. Your assertion that NONE of the members spend in the hosts establishment is, frankly, ridiculous.

The business model is well established and is based on France Passion and other similar schemes that have been running for years. You can rest assured that businesses wouldn’t participate in the scheme if there was nothing in it for them.

Good for them! I think the ones that don't are cheeky. I also think that reporting someone and having them removed from the book is a "jobsworth" approach and not pleasant.

You needed to hear that?

If your default position is one of mistrust, I’m sad for you.

I also think that reporting someone and having them removed from the book is a "jobsworth" approach and not pleasant.

You dont believe in folks not breaking promises/contracts then? That’s such a shame. The hosts entered into a contract to provide, without obligation, a parking spot and Britstops members made a payment for access to host sites identified in the book. It‘s a very straight forward relationship.

I can understand you may not choose to be a Britstop member but I cannot understand your need to denigrate the business or cast aspersions about its members. I must be missing something.

I totally agree! I wouldn't dream of using a space in a pub carpark without using the pub! Some pubs only have space for a couple of motorhomes.

This thread, like so many about pub stop overs, has again moved on from "can you take dogs into pubs that advertise in BritStops book", to the petty arguments of the right and wrongs on the scheme. If you don't understand the scheme look online or ask a question, if after that you "just don't get it", move on. If you have nothing to add to the Thread, why post.

Oh for goodness sake, you are making up your own responses here. Let me recap, I think it's cheeky not to buy food and drink if you're parked in a pub car park. I think it's a bit off to report someone and have them removed from the book. As you said, I'm entitled to my opinion and that's it. The rest you have posted about what you think I mean, is rubbish.

I'm done.
