Brilliant (pun intended) Torch from Aldi

Alkaline, NiCd, NiMH or Lithium.....forget about the battery.......who wants to go back to these things on your bike?

Standard alkaline batteries are 1.2V,
In the progression from small to large:-
AAA, AA,C.
You wouldn't like C battery falling in your toes.Y
They have been around forever.
Oops, my mistake.
Standard batteries are NOT 1.2V, they are 1.5V.
It's rechargeable that are 1.2.

God I remember those , I had 2 paper rounds I did on my bike , in the winter months i spent half my wage on batteries for the bike lights.

The advantage of replaceable batteries is that when you need a torch, for example during a power cit and the battery is flat, it takes two minutes to pop in new batteries rather than a four hour recharge!
Oh, it’s a power cut!

And go to battery station for batteries!

Tony
The better quality torches have rechargeable AND replaceable batteries, same as i said earlier I've got a spare 16340 in the fridge, keeping fresh 😁

I'm getting confused here, you wrote in post #13, that 16340 were rechargeable CR123's BUT you you store them in the fridge.

I know little about this subject BUT I have read often on the forum that it is bad for a Lithium battery if it gets too cold.

Is the fridge the best place to store my new torches spare CR123 lithium batteries? 🤔

Mine are Lithium and weight about 15 grams. 😄

I've been told that I can't get anymore torches - that's just my led lenser collection, I've got just as many nebo's too!

You wouldn't be tempted by one of these, then?

That's not a light, that's a weapon! 😱

I bought a similar maglite clone from LIDL a few years ago. Partly for self-defence if needed. Excellent for the price.

My most useful torch is my baseball cap that has about 5 LEDs on the front brim. I can't say it gives a very bright light but for convenience it beats my other head torches. I will buy a secend one to keep permanently in the PVC. Handy for finding things under that fixed bed in the dark.

I said ;

I meant 16340 batteries are rechargeable versions of the non rechargeable CR123s

I keep my spare 16340 in the fridge egg compartment, might not be necessary but in summer they might go over normal room temperature, keeping them cool won't hurt.

Just as an aside, everyone should have a couple of torches that run on batteries. In the event of a major disaster when the electricity is down, you can always find batteries but won't be able to charge a USB torch.

What about our vans? We've got 80ah ready in the van waiting for an emergency.

We had a power cut a few years ago and I stuck my Olight H2r (18650 powered) on the kitchen blind pointing down, it was on low setting all night and just lost 15% of battery power.

I think the only situation where I'd need alkaline batteries would be a nuclear winter 😆

Good idea. We have one that winds up.

Hahaha. I can never find batteries now, let alone if there disaster.

I'm talking about a major disaster. Every house has batteries. Many shops have batteries. I'm not talking about looting. I'm talking about genuine major disasters.

Yes, sorry. I should keep my mouth shut. I probably live in a slightly different world.

Picked up this all metal LED torch today from ALDI, incredible value at £9.99, and as it's nearlya foot long you could use it as a club!
Four C type batteries and the adjustable spread of light is just amazing!
BTW, the 'Thinking Man' water feature is my tribute to the late quizmaster Bamber Grassgroin: the man with green pubic hair and an IQ of 300! If you look at the foot of the feature you can see why he's not happy!

John. The odd slightly negative response to your informative post. Love Bamber by the way.
But never mind the doomsayers, you can henceforth thrive on your puns, a bright light indeed in this world of negativity and turgid prose!

I used to like a Turgid Prose but I can't find them in the shops these days! 😄
