Picked up this all metal LED torch today from ALDI, incredible value at £9.99, and as it's nearlya foot long you could use it as a club!
Four C type batteries and the adjustable spread of light is just amazing!
BTW, the 'Thinking Man' water feature is my tribute to the late quizmaster Bamber Grassgroin: the man with green pubic hair and an IQ of 300! If you look at the foot of the feature you can see why he's not happy!

In the day of usb rechargeable everything I'd never buy a torch that required batteries. In fact I avoid buying anything that needs batteries. Four batteries will cost as much as the torch.
Strangely enough, I, today, bought a Energizer Hybrid Power 1000 lumens torch that is both rechargeable and has batteries.

Nice when one has choice! 😄

I've been told that I can't get anymore torches - that's just my led lenser collection, I've got just as many nebo's too!
You ain't got one of these then! They seem to be the 'must have' Crimbo present this year according to the adverts!

"C" cell batteries cost an arm and a leg.
I always avoid and look for rechargeable via usb.
That's what my new hybrid has got, both USB charging and 2 CR123's for emergencies.
I had never seen those batteries before, are they a new addition? 🤔

Far too big and just not necessary.. Unless you want to use the club feature 🫣

The torches that use 18650 lithium batteries are the ones to go for. Although I prefer head torches so the 16340 battery is ideal.

The one I mentioned is about 3" long and can be used as a head OR hand and pocket torch.

(This is NOT a recommendation as I've only just bought it BUT with 5 brightness settings and USB & lithium battery emergency power + the above, I do like it's flexibility.)

I’ve a head torch fettish. All my LED lenser head torch's (six of them) use 18650 cells, would never go back to disposable batteries again! 😉

They're great aren't they, always pointing where you're looking, always close at hand, some people won't wear them because they think they look silly, not me I don't care 😜

I love them!

I particularly like the night light feature on the rear dial which glows (minimal battery consumption) but allows easy location of the torch in the dark.

My only gripe now is, as the plastics have aged, the back battery covers are getting a little brittle.

I may ask PaulandChrissy if he’d print me up a few replacements. 😇👌

That looks good, the CR123S won't be needed with the 18650 though, they last a long time in torches and usually they are plenty bright enough on medium or even low setting

Only trouble I find is when someone turns to talk to you with their headtorch is they instantly blind you ...
Otherwise.. yes they are great...

Treat yourself to a Sofirn HS20 😜 it's got 2 LEDs one wider angle and one beam. They are aluminium and use the 18650 👌
I bought one earlier this year for my work helmet, it lasts all day on medium, it's a nice warm white too.

This is the best headlight ever made... The Olight H1R, it has a fantastic magnetic charger (blue cap). I use mine every day, even for eating dinner sometimes, my family all laugh at me because everytime they see me or see me on Facebook I'm often wearing it 😆 on one work site they all called me torchy 🤣
The switch broke a few years ago, devastated I took it into the soldering room and worked out a way of fixing it, new switch on a tiny bit of veroboard bonded on the end 🤩 better than new now. Olight have stopped making the rechargeable batteries for them now but I've got a spare in the fridge. They will use the standard 16340 but won't recharge it in the torch as the Olight version of the battery has both + and - contacts on one end.

Just on charge at the moment 🙏🥰

It comes with 2, so, IF I ever flatten the CR123's, (which I doubt as most of the time it will be charged via the USB in the van) I will look for the. 18650's. 👍

That looks virtually the same as the one I bought except the USB charge point is behind the light.
Energizer have a 20% discount at Homebase where I bought mine for £28.

No mine is smaller, only about 2" long. Lighter 16340 battery but still lasts 5 hours on medium.

It comes with an 18650 that is already inside it and you use that and recharge it normally. The CR123s aren't rechargeable

The advantage of replaceable batteries is that when you need a torch, for example during a power cit and the battery is flat, it takes two minutes to pop in new batteries rather than a four hour recharge!
Oh, it’s a power cut!

And go to battery station for batteries!

Standard alkaline batteries are 1.2V,
In the progression from small to large:-
AAA, AA,C.
You wouldn't like C battery falling in your toes.Y
They have been around forever.

If you happen to have a spare £10 worth of batteries in a drawer just waiting for a power cut. I have 2 rechargeable torches and a rechargeable head torch . Can't say I've ever had a problem . I also have 2 battery banks that also charge off usb and they are always charged incase of emergency.

Batteries are old technology these days
