Have 20 year old Elddis Sunseeker Motorhome. Struggling to get breakdown cover for a single trip to France/Spain? Any recommendations as AA & RAC very expensive?

We have our 19 year motorhome with Lifesure St Neots area, European cover, and it is with RAC but is only about £100. They have been bought out recently but still keep the name Lifesure so not sure what will happen this year. Also try Peter James insurance they have some classic insurance. Let me know what you find as it may be helpful to me also.

NW flex plus does include breakdown .
The 31 day limit is for health cover

If you can reference the policy section to support your understanding , it would help please

Travel insurance is limited to 31 days unless you pay to extend but breakdown is unlimited.

Lv are very good
Would recommend LV breakdown to anyone, but don't bother with single trip go for the annual at £150 , best motorhome accessorie you will ever buy.
We were looked after superbly when our gearbox gave up in france last year (y)

Are LV still doing motorhomes ? recent posts about existing customers only no new customers ?
Just had my renewal quote from LV £433 uk breakdown up from £400 last year.

look in smal print, you have to pay extra if it is longer, but as I said, new insurers coming in with new T/C so all that might change anyway

No - that is the travel insurance element where you have to pay for extra than 31 days.

Breakdown insurance has no restrictions and the new insurers (Aviva for the travel insurance) started quite a while ago. Breakdown is provided by the AA in UK and partners in Europe. Up to 8 metres in Europe. No restrictions in UK. No time limits.

I think you are confusing Breakdown cover and Travel insurance. Both are included with Nationwide Flex plus but are separate policies.

Sorry Chas, but this is not the first time you have given out misguiding information re the LV/Britannia Rescue Breakdown Cover. I know you mean well, but the policy simply does not cover any age or size of MH. :(

‘vehicle’
any mechanically propelled vehicle, registered in the UK, that requires insurance for use on
the public highway as specified under the Road Traffic Act 1988 and does not exceed any
of the following dimensions when fully loaded:
• Caravans and trailers - 8 metres in length (including A-frame).
• Motorhomes - 8 metres in length or 7.5 tonnes in weight.
• All other vehicles - 7 metres in length, 2.3 metres in width, 3 metres in height or 3.5
tonnes in weight.
All vehicles must also meet the criteria specified in Section B - Vehicles.

Anyone not delving into the Policy Wording, could be easily led into taking out cover, upon your recommendation. Yes, you had great service from them.................but in a panel sized LWB van, ie, a former Ambulance.
There are many of us driving MHs which exceed the dimensions and/or weights in the Policy Wording provided above.

For UK use only, the Nationwide Breakdown Cover would be more suitable for MHs over 8 x metres....................but not for cover abroad, as that is restricted up to 8 x metres.

Best regards,

Jock. :)

8 meters and 7.5 ton. Not a great many wanting more than that.
All I can say they put up about a grand in stuff for us, hotels. Car hire. Air fares. Picked us up off the motorway, found a garage.
All for £153 and we are still running about on the same policy, havnt had to renew it yet.

Great - but Nationwide will give you that for all your vehicles and throw in worldwide travel insurance for the family too for £216. and if you pay your cards right you get £100 of that back each year.

And by the way you have to ring them to get it , they will tell you if you are not eligible.

There are hundreds of us Chas, ie, almost every tandem axled Autotrail, Swift, Dethleff Hymer, Rapido, Adria, etc, etc, and that's not including the heavier ones on twin rear wheel Merc or Iveco chassis, which means LV/Britannia do not cover any age or size of MH. 🤷‍♂️
Get yourself on a Rally Field to see how many MHs can be over 8 x metres.

The op hasn't got a fancy new motorhome, he has a 20 year old elddis which he was having trouble with because of age.
LV provide cover for any smaller motorhomes no matter what age which was the problem which I don't think a lot of other companies do.
I don't see any reason to have an argument about it , it's there if you don't like it, don't have it.

I am not having an argument about it Chas. We have a 19 year old MH and struggle to get EU Breakdown Cover too, due to it's age and length. So, I reiterate, whilst LV/Britannia provided you with great service, their cover is not available to all.

Regards,

Jock.
