Break-ins at Neufchâtel-en-Bray

We're currently at the very nice aire at Neufchâtel, ready for our vet's appointment this afternoon.
We hear that three vans were broken into during the night, last night.
Our neighbour showed us a small hole which had been made under the handle of his cab door.
He reported it to the site owner who is very concerned and told them that he had already reported two other break-ins to the police.
There is also a report of another break-in, earlier this month, on Search for Sites.
We will move on after the vet's appointment.

Unlikely, as normally A class vans do not use the generic cab door handles/locks.

This is the ProPlate fitted to our coach built van cab door.

I have a thread on here somewhere about how to fit them. Good idea to tell your neighbour as the damage to the steel underneath is more extensive and an area for rust to start. The proplates cover the damage as well as protect from a second attempt.

Fitting Pro-Plates to Fiat Ducati doors

I have just finished fitting Pro-Plates with studs to the manual locking doors (driver’s door and rear “barn” door) of a FIAT Ducato.

Although it wasn’t a difficult job technically, it was fiddly and frustrating especially the driver’s door because I was not familiar with the fitting of the door trim panels and how the door furniture was assembled. In both cases the plates fit under the door handle & lock mechanism which therefore has to be...

That's our go-to first and last stop in France. Such a surprise to hear. I'd always thought of it as secure. Is there such a place nowadays?

Does not apply to me but I am thinking about external bonded over plates on the basis it shows you are aware of the method, and they'd be difficult to remove quickly, and at least they'd think twice compared to just sticking a screwdriver swiftly in. Removing door trims etc, I'd probably do more damage than they would!!

We are the same.

They do have the gate cameras, you'd think that would have scared them off. Years ago when it was new and not tar macadamed, I remember local kids riding bikes around the circuit like it was a cinder track - while vans were parked. Perhaps they grew up into thieves

It can do, it depends on the door handle fitted. Our Carthago one is quite different the Hymer one is similar to the Fiat one.

No, but I'll look into it. My theory is, if it's visible, they won't bother to try it. I think it was from Germany.

We stayed at the small Aire in the Centre of town at the End of August. Just a few parking spaces. I know there’s a big Aire on the edge ot town. Do you mean that one? Does it have some sort of resident manager. I was a bit confused by the site owner bit, or do you mean the Campsite that’s also nearby.

I’m just thinking about the location for future trips really as it’s a good spot if you’ve done the Poole Cherbourg early morning crossing and are heading East.

The Aire is adjacent to, and owned by, the campsite.

Now there's a guy (the. owner) who needs a winter break! Works all day like a trojan (except for lunch), and hardly ever seems to smile. No time, perhaps. Has never once acknowledged me.

But a little tip, at peak times if you phone ahead on the day and book a place in the campsite, you can move next door to the Aires at 10 or 22 am the next day. Mind you, the campsite itself is not that much dearer.

That might be the free one at Neufchatel-en-Bray, just to the south east near the chateaux/castle, we always use that one.

Mesnieres is in the next village on the route to Dieppe, and is a very pretty
place. The other one in the town centre I've never tried.

It's the aire which is adjacent to the campsite, next to the voie verte. It is under the same ownership as the campsite and has approx 20 pitches on hard standing.

I think the very helpful owners live in the house at the campsite entrance. (Campsite currently closed for the winter.)

Just for info, we stayed the night in the end, and everything was OK.

The following night we spent at the free aire at Songeons- separated gravel pitches and services operated by jeton. There are some lovely walks from there, including to the plus beau village of Geberoy, and we'd thoroughly recommend it.
