Bottled gas price rises

OK I know we use very little gas so over the year and a half a 6kg bottle of propane has lasted us the price rise is bearable. However I have just replaced said bottle which eighteen months ago cost £20. It is now £31!

I think I will buy a cow and stuff the cooker feed hose up its arris. It must be cheaper.
That’s 12 litres £2.59 a litre. Refillable gives you access to under £1 litre. I paid 85p litre last fill on two 14kg alugas bottles. That 56 Litres will last over 3 years, = @5x6kG for under £50 saving £105 vs £31 a bottle.

Just swapped a 6kg calor on NC500 about two weeks ago. Less than 30 quid. Think it was 26 or 27. So a bargain!

Haybob , That is certainly a good price. It must be old stock as the the bottled gas price has gone up at least twice in the last few months.

Changed mine at Morrisons, Nottingham a couple of weeks ago. £26.00

Just refilled a campingaz cylinder in Spain. This was a crappy rusty looking cylinder with a dent in it, it came with the van and has lasted forever ( dont use the hobs much and no oven.) garage owner didnt care , shrugged and said pick a replacement off a pile. Got a lovely full shiny blue brand new one for 20 euros, cant stop admiring it, how sad is that…

Not motorhome but as we live in chapel st Leonard's we can't have mains gas. We have storage heating and supplement that in the evening with a small butane gas heater. Last week at flogas in Anderby £35.60 for a 13 kg cylinder. They have none this week and don't know when they will have. So managed to find one at ulceby cross garage £49.99!! That's supply and demand in action with (Xmas) bells on.

Be woRuth getting a safefill if you have anywhere you can top up

Don't think you are supposed to use propane indoors all the fires require butane.
I agree. Propane involves much higher pressures and must be stored outside. I believe it is only allowed inside a building after it has been through a regulator that reduces the pressure to much safer levels.

Depends if you have a propane heater, these are designed for indoor use.
All gas heaters with an open flame element will produce carbon monoxide.
At £49 a bottle I would be costing a bottled gas heating system.

It is not about carbon monoxide though I agree it is dangerous. Propane and butane are very different because of the vastly different bottle pressures. In a motorhome propane must stored outside or in a sealed enclosure with drop vents. I wouldn’t use either indoors but I would most certainly never take a propane cylinder inside my home.

No Propane cylinders should ever be stored or used indoors in a domestic environment.
Yes you will see them occasionally used for short term use by a tradesman etc but that’s the only time it’s permitted.
We refuse to sell any Safefill or Gaslow etc to people who want them for cabinet gas heaters etc ⚠️
A lot of the dodgy Chinese crap being sold by the sheds are labelled as suitable for Propane ⚠️
They aren’t and they belong on a skip 🤬😡
