Border crossing from Gibraltar back into spain

According to my family who live in la linea, diesel is now cheaper in Spain. Those travelling from Gib to Spain must have proof as to why they want to enter eg appointment, or must have a confirmation of hotel booking, the police have cottoned on to some booking a hotel, getting a booking reference, then cancelling the booking, this did work but the police are now phoning the hotels for confirmation .

The family now say there is no advantage in going to Gib, they have stopped going.

Lots of interesting history and the Tunnels are a engineering feat, the one overlooking the straights with the Cannons still in situ are particularly amazing absolutely bolt straight and considering the date they were built is worth seeing just by itself.
The town itself is a bit of a throw back to the fifties and it’s not just Spanish and Gibaltarians who make up the population the amount of nationalities very different.
it’s really a place to see just to say you have.

Apart from a few duty free attractions it’s never been a cheap place.

Spent 2 years in Gib 83-85..didn't particularly like it..spent most weekends clearing all the crap out by Moorish Castle..where all the junkies went to shoot up..took us 18 months of hard graft..it was a nice place for the tourists..5 years later it was a dump again..
As for the locals..it depended what day of the week it was as to if they were British or not..
If I never went back again it would be too soon.....
Awaiting incoming flak...

Went over this morning from the Marina. When leaving the Spanish boarder guy asked where we were going to. I just said the marina. He seemed to have an english guy with him who then said "are you in a camper". They then wanted to see the parking ticket for the marina. Which I had. Stamped and through we went.

May I ask, what is the attraction of Gibraltar?, other than visiting friends?
Morrisons supermarket. My wife has told me this with some authority and insight on the matter. I just drive her there and plead for a travel time of the day (in and out) that avoids the worst queues.

Strange, I spent a couple of years in Gib between 79 and 83, living in DTR, Sheppard's and Governors Parade. Knew a couple of guy's 'sentenced' to the castle, and most people took a smoke but never once saw or heard of junkies shooting up anywhere on the rock......

We did cross yesterday on our bikes!
Followed the other bikes, got shouted at from the car line by the police, had a bit of a row that they had not manned the bike lane, and we were just following the bikes/ scooters.
Had our passport stamp.
Riding in Gibraltar is interesting, I love riding in traffic , Jan does not!.
We wanted to ride up to the top of the rock, £18 each for a ticket 🙁.
So road down to the tip and around through the tunnel back to the start.
Got the Tobacco and whiskey, £6.50 per 50 g and £5.50 per litre, and then left.
Stopped on the way out via the bike lane, asked where are you going next, told him Portugal😊.
Then had to produce our return ferry schedule, got stamped out.
Personally and chatting to our neighbour who had a gib reg motorhome next to us , the government of Spain are taking the European law to a level we all do not experience, on this boarder. ( they are looking at a treaty for access)
By this law if you cross to France or Europe you must provide a return ticket .
As for Gib and staying in the marina, it’s very nice and looking around la linea is also very nice.
Found a great cafe in la linea the (Okay cafe) coffee 1.40 and tostada 1.40, dogs welcome!

Not sure if they still do it but at one time you get the cable car for free (and jump the queue) if you booked the restaurant (Mons Calpe) at the top. You had to buy a proper meal rather than just a plate of chips. Views from the restaurant are stunning so it was a great deal.

Forgot to mention the Cruises in my earlier post, it’s not unusual in the better months to have 3/4 Cruise ships in port at the same time and of course they all embark in the morning so all of a sudden you have 10/12000 people wandering around like lost soles and all them old folk wear them canvas type beech shoes looking bloody ridiculous. I’m an old sod but my god l don’t look like this lot😳

We need a photo to confirm that assertion.
