Bloody handbrake

Caught mine on the handbrake back in 2018 which shattered the plastic surround. A friendly Funster gave me a link to a new surround.

Ford have solved the problem, the handbrake lever is always in the down position.

Don’t use the handbrake……leave it in gear.

Two options: buy a Sprinter (handbrake on the left and can be specified as fold-down to miss the rotating seat).

Or

Buy an auto. I can't remember when I last used the handbrake.

Electronic parking brakes have improved a lot in recent years, certainly the VW ones I have experience of are excellent
I have an electric handbrake. I also have auto hold.
Come to a stop using the brakes and auto hold kicks in. Put it in gear and raise the clutch the autohold releases with no driver input.
If you're stationary for 10 minutes it applies the normal electric handbrake.
Wouldn't be without it now, unlike bloody auto stop/start which gets turned off on getting in.

I catch my shorts pockets on the stupid Ikea kitchen drawers at home, so I feel your pain!! If I could sue Ikea for whiplash, I'd be quids in by now!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

PS I didn't choose the stupid handles or the kitchen. They were in when we bought the house. As soon as time allows, the handles will be gone! :dance2:

Adjust your handbrake

I have experienced the Shorts being caught on the handbrake when we had our old transit van, luckily my trousers were of stouter stuff so no tears or rips.
My wife's Golf has an automatic handbrake and she had it serviced for the first time and returned home with no problems from the garage and parked in front of my car. When I walked out to see how the service had gone I watched in awe as her car slowly rolled into my car!!! Luckily no damage, it appears the garage had switched off the automatic brake, so a swift read of the VW handbook to check its correct operation. This was also done during the second service.

It really annoys me that garages don't return your vehicle as delivered.
Mirrors and seat positions changed, Radio left on and stations changed... Who's car do they think it is!!

You need a drop off handbrake which drops the handle down when handbrake is on i had one in my old relay van.
Yes Fiat used to use them on the big old panel vans. Wonderful but also higly expensive for them.
Mine was LHD . Doesn't make any difference ,handbrake is between seat & the door .
Another point worth mentioning is that it is nothing to do with adjustment. As I stated before mine was well below the seat. Also when parked here the handbrake was never on. The same situation would arise if you turned to your left & slid off the seat on to the ground outside. You would end up hooked up ,always.

Ditto on a Volvo auto just superb. Likewise with stop start. It's positively dangerous, when I have forgotten to disable it and when just about to pull out of a junction it decides to switch off the engine and the second or so for it to start up you are left in limbo, hate the system.
Rather like the TPMS. Park with tyres on one side in the sun off it goes. If it could predict an imminent blowout I could forgive it but the light would go on as you were spinning down the road!

Look I know that few would describe me as svelte or lissom, but I am not exactly a troll either. So why am I chucking my third pair of shorts in the bin because as I disembark from the driving throne I catch my shorts on the effing handbrake and rip them to bits.

So dear Fiat. Move your bleeding handbrake to the dashboard or send me more shorts.

Has anyone got any even remotely sensible suggestions re the positioning of the poxy handbrake? Apart from less baggy shorts - which as I have intimated - is not an option.
Since fitting a Rare Spares handbreak extender I've not had the problem. When parked just pull the pin and the lever drops out of the way. It's a bit pricey but the cost of 3 or 4 pairs of shorts should cover it

Its bad enough with the normal handbrake ... just imagine what could be 'ruined' if he forgot to lower the extender one! I think his eyes would more than 'water'!
