Bladders too big for our boots

I'm a big fan of the nocturnal pee bottle.

You can get those large water bottles people use in gyms which tend to have a wide opening, hold a couple of litres and for some reason are often tinted black which makes walking around with a bottle full of pee a little bit less obvious.

There's normally somewhere you can take them to empty them during the day and that extends the time before needing to empty the toilet enormously.

Just another tip we have found, buy the cheapest own brand supermarket toilet roll you can find

Cheeky Panda is good in the cassette, it's cheap and good for the environment because Bamboo grows really quickly.

Use a spray bottle instead of flushing, saves a lot of liquid going in the cassette & you could use a bin for the paper.
Do you think that really makes much of a difference, surely a little bit of paper doesn't take up much room  or maybe it's half a roll at a time

I think, from the sounds, that paper gets used, possibly too much, at home style, it’s is then deposited into the bowl, this then takes a considerable amount of flushing, and water usage to get the now adhered to the bowl paper down the hole.

Everybody loves a toilet thread:LOL:.
Night-time use only or/and when it's p***sing down with rain.
Minimal flush and don't put the chemicals in the flush water. Put them directly into the cassette.

Read about many FLT's they pee in a bottle, poo in a bag and can last weeks on a single cassette.

They don't worry about toilet paper brand, its whatever they can nick from the public Loo's or MacDonalds when they sit in the van and take advantage of free WiFi

It amazes me sometimes when certain guests arrive at my house that a full loo roll becomes half-a-roll after just one visit. What on earth are they doing with it?

fishplug is the only one that mentioned what I also do, ie a separate bottle for your pee. Personally I use a 1 gallon bottle from Morrisons, buy a gallon of water for use in kettle, once empty reuse as a pee bottle. saves a gallon of fluid going into the cassette. We also carry a spare cassette as we do a lot of off grid so we can usually make a cassette last 3 days between the 2 of us and only flush for poos.

PS I use the morrisons bottles as it's got a better opening for my girth :LOL::LOL::LOL:Sainsbury version was too small.

With more people wanting to go off grid, people should consider marine toilets

My black tank is 45 gallons, so I don't have to fumble round with peeing in a bottle, flushing with a squirter, or bagging toilet tissue smeared in shit

Plenty of manufacturers fit them

Possibly, I’ve never understood buying a lovely Motorhome then p1ssing in a bottle and bagging bog roll smeared in crap

Normal use our cassette a good 4 days for 2 people, spare cassette and you’ve well over a week.

Lots of people don't use the toilet in the van at all.

Does it double up as a "hot water bottle" in the winter

Afraid I can't get my head round this pissing in a bottle of you are in the country, just nip outside and do what the french do.
1. "if you are in the country" - sometimes Im not
2. In the country or not, Im not nipping outside the van in the middle of the night in my birthday suit, with my white irish skin there would be reports of a yeti with alopecia roaming the place!
3. In the day time and in the country I do indeed partake of a hedgerow / outdoor piddle on occasion.

So then you use the toilet.
But the op distinctly said off grid which I took to mean in the wild.

I live in mine full time, I use the toilet exactly like I would have done in bricks and mortar, one number 2 in the morning and as many pees as needed, I never use site toilets except for showering. Two cassettes, one in the toilet and the other fermenting in the garage, when the current one is full it goes in the garage and the one in the garage is emptied and put back into service, a cassette normally lasts one week. I just use sufficient flush to remove any marks with the aid of a toilet brush.

We were recently wild camping up in the Scottish isles where the nearest Elsan point was a 32 mile round trip. We lasted six days until I went on a loo run. Make like the Greeks and throw the paper in a bin (bag in the shower perhaps). I know its not very nice but it works. Then make like the French and pee outside except in the UK try to be more discrete than the French who treat it like a national sport with pride. :ROFLMAO:

Get a secret thetford emptying weapon.

I found these a more convenient size - and aptly named too. Also has a wide enough neck (just).

Likewise we use a spray bottle and 1 cassette lasts us (2 of us) 3 days.
We have a large aluminium storage box on the back of the motorhome and carry a spare cassette in there so we can go 6 days before emptying.
I have also been known to pee in a 4 pint plastic milk container which extends the need to empty each cassette by at least a day.
