Birdsong…….

Sat here at Tarifa this morning listening to Nightingales singing so melodious ❤️😊

The CS we are on at present had a Woodpecker raiding the peanuts yesterday!

Where we are parked up in Spain it’s full of the cuckoo call at the moment plus yesterday a song thrush and we heard a woodpecker .

Not no because we downsized but we lived in the countryside next to a wood and we had a large garden with feeding stations and a stream and bot did these pull in the wildlife absolutely fabulous watching the regulars and awaiting the seasonal visitors, now, we have a property in Spain pretty much next to plenty of greenery and spot lots of birds so l thought l would replicate the feeding stations to bring them into our garden, left them out for a number of days rolling into a couple of weeks but not a murmur absolutely no interest, they venture into the garden to feed on various shrubbery but completely ignored the nuts and seeds, strange.

With bird feeders, if you don’t want corvids or pigeons coming don’t get ant bird food with corn in it or fat balls they attract them, stick to Sunflower hearts and Niger seeds.

I don't know if there's any truth in this, but I was told that if you mix chilli powder with the bird feed, then the rats don't / won't touch it

Apparently the chilli powder doesn't affect the birds at all 🤷‍♂️

Never heard of this - but every day's a school day!

"Strong chilli powder or pepper sauce (like Tabasco) can be shaken onto bird food. Birds aren't bothered by the chilli, but most squirrels can't put up with the burning sensation and will leave the food alone."

A couple of years ago we had a problem with ripe tomatoes being eaten, water in a sprayer which had a bag with several scotch bonnets in it, then spray the tomatoes soon stopped them being eaten, we think it was martins eating them.

The Merlin Bird App is brilliant - often stop out walking to identify the birdsong.
Robins - what a huge noise from such a wee bird!
