Bird song app

Any recommendations for an app, ones I see are free for a limited time then pay… any decent free ones out there..?

Another for Merlin, heard and subsequently saw lots of "new to me" birds during our recent trip around Germany. Black Caps are like our Sparrows they were everywhere!
We're off to Vietnam & Thailand next month I'll download the Far East software should be very interesting.

Sitting in the camper and listening to a bird, presume some sort of owl, but not heard it before

Trouble is, the phone is not as sensitive as the ear, so it doesn't pick anything up.

It's annoying , but I guess it's the same with all phones .

Found that when recording make sure your volume for mic and speaker is on full ? We found today about 4 different birds recorded but not seen. We know they are about but didn't see them. That's the Merlin app.

Using the other half's Sony phone that the app picks out all sorts even some we don't think we noticed or heard......even against a level of background noise..... it really is a great app....!
