Bike Insurance when abroad

I insure our e-bikes through our home insurance and, yes, it doubled the premium. When I asked why they advised that over 100,000 bikes are stolen each year and e-bikes are popular targets and expensive. The advantage I have from insuring this way is that the bikes are covered at home without additional security measures, in the motorhome without any additional security required although they are in the garage (UK or abroad with no time limitations) and when out cycling. The bikes aren't even required as named items on the policy as the single item limit is £5k (the bikes are treated like a camera or any other item that I have at home or away from home upto the value of £5k per item). The company is Cherish which is underwritten by AXA.

LV premier multi trip travel insurance will cover you for up to 90 days per trip, any capacity bike, providing you have a full licence for the bike and you are wearing a crash helmet and appropriate clothing.
Cover For You provide similar cover (Axa) for very reasonable rates, £45 for us this year, including Chris' medical declaration...

I have a 50cc equivalent Electric Scooter (as in motorbike not scooter) which I ride on my car license. It's limited to 28mph. (well in theory  )

I too was shocked by the insurance. Initially £300. Managed to get it down to £180 ish I think but limited to 3rd party F & T and bigger excess. Again - not much previous bike experience for me.

I just hire a Bike 7/10/14 or 30 Days at a time, saves a lot of hassle, and this is off someone who has 7 Big Bikes...

Oh wow , your amazed , sorry mate , i'm not ! . This is actually quite common , it's a new policy , and heavily loaded . To be brutally honest , i'm more surprised you actually found cover .

Me too

As for continental cover , my policy covers me for 90 days , in any one trip , which i don't consider an issue . I can't stay any more than 90 days , in 180 anyway .
Actually you can, Morocco and large parts of the Balkans are outside Schengen. My LV policy quoted a few posts above covers 180/trip.

One thing I don't like is a sarky comment that's no help at all. The OP asked for info to get the best insurance for him.

So why can't people just be helpful???
