BF Code. I Despair?

So these are the basics of the "Friends and Family" codes that come with Club Voyage membership (these are the "old" ones with 15 codes to give out - the new members only get 8 which makes me think that BF have tightened the screw a bit simply because the discounts are being so widely used).

Friends and family rewards

Encourage your friends and family to book with us and they will receive a 10% discount on their booking. What's more, for every booking made, we'll credit your Club Voyage account with £10 towards your own future travel.

(Up to a limit of 15 guest bookings per year. Maximum credit accruable £150 per annum, allocated when you renew your membership)

Personally I wouldn't give a code to someone I didn't know personally as I don't think the scheme was intended to do that and I certainly agree with Emmit's OP.

It's called 'taking the p**s'.. one of my pet hates on forums, including the tiny one I look after, people signing up and their first post is on the ponce.. no intro or even a hello.

I blank them immediately.
Absolutely, and even worse we all willingly respond with best advice and many never have the basic courtesy to say thank you.

I don't get '£150`
I get vouchers to the value of however many codes I give out THE PREVIOUS YEAR., if I rejoin.

There is a World of difference between giving a code to someone I may have met on a rally field when attending or when I had organised a rally.
We are a club. We have a membership. I can understand Jim allowing people having access but some are taking that generosity to ridiculous levels.

On the other hand there are many forums (just as good as this in terms of information, quality of design etc etc) that do not charge a membership. So I'd don't see the membership thing as relevant. It's just unfortunate we have to pay to be on here.

Just to add to the flavour if this thread, one member has only four posts over several years , two asking for a BF code. I helped out, asked if it worked, never ever got a reply , a thankyou, or a kiss my....

Perhaps you could name a few of the many that are as good as this one.

Many websites are littered with irritating adverts and they profit from having your data.
I've heard it said that when a website is free then you are the product.

I don't access or subscribe to any of the popular social media platforms at all except Fun and one (payable) minor interest vintage m/bike forum and never get any spam.

"It's just unfortunate we have to pay to be on here."

Your use of the word 'unfortunate' is, er, unfortunate.

Not motorhome sites. I was referring to a coup!e of car forums, a financial forum and a teachers forum which tend to be my frequent haunts (other than Facebook). This is probably the best motorhome site, which is why I (reluctantly) pay for access.

No ad problems with the ones I frequent. One car forum has a few ads but they are appropriate to the forum.

Possibly - couldn't think of another at the time. Maybe 'it's a pity'.

I struggle to always see who is a Free Member or not using my iPad

I’ve given a code to some paid members giving them £150 and they haven’t updated me after using it which I thought was not really what this forum was about.

I was once a bit miffed when a free member was enabled to buy something on the classifieds immediately before I messaged the seller wishing to buy, I didn’t think they were allowed to access classifieds but they can and do.

Copied from the BF website, Club Voyage membership terms & conditions:

"Friends and family discounts are designed to be used by those close to you as an added value benefit of membership. Promoting or advertising this membership benefit via websites, internet forums and elsewhere is strictly prohibited, and considered a breach of your membership".

So, although giving the code out to people via the forum may not technically be promoting or advertising the benefit it may be sailing close to the wind.

Hmm, but no-one is promoting the code, just folk asking for one..............

My view is if you want the discounts, and you haven't got friend or family who can help, join the club.
Also, don't expect to be given access to my breakdown cover, or pop round for a hot bath.
Asking strangers on forums to subsidise your participation in a leisure activity is taking the mickey.

I think the Friends and Family discount is a carry over from when the the scheme was called the "Property Owners Club". In those days if you wanted to join you had to submit proof that you owned a property in France or Spain & the friends and family discounts were to allow your guests to come and stay with you. When the scheme was relaunched as Club Voyage the benefits were carried over but I doubt BF actually want them to be given out willy nilly or they may as well just advertise a general 10% reduction themselves.

Why would a ferry company want to give money off other than to encourage the sale of more tickets? They're not a charity supporting poor people who own a property abroad. Why would they give a reduction to family and friends of people owning foreign property other than to increase sales?

The issue is that while on some devices like now on my PC, I can clearly see subscribed members from the colour of the forum name.
However on phones etc it's not so clear. Many times i have seen these posts for codes, my view is that seems right to offer to other fully paid up members and not the one's who join just to get a freebie.
Some give the codes maybe because they are not bothered about it, others i suspect, don't realise who is paid up and who is not.
I do it to earn a tenner,,BUSBY..😄😄

I know. I never understood why they originally restricted the club to property owners only but they did as we had to send them a copy of a utility bill as proof when we first signed up years ago. Then once they widened the scope I'd have thought they would get more business by offering the 10% discount to anyone signing up for their newletter emails rather than just people who know a club member.

I think it's a bit like the big clubs that most of us think like to use that name as a marketing ploy despite really being buisnesses for years, the discount cards at some retailers and loyalty cards in supermarkets all ways of making people feel they're part of a club and getting a special deal.

Do you remember the BT friends and family promotion?

I seem to recall there was a monthly draw to include a holiday with something like 7 of your most dialled numbers.

Had I won I would be off with the staff of the Pride of India (y)

Yep, just after moving house I had a letter or maybe it was an email from B.T. encouraging me to take it up and they helpfully listed my most dialled numbers. I recall feeling that I really ought to review my lifestyle when the first 5 were:
My local Chinese takeaway.
My Health centre.
My conveyancing solicitor.
The electricity board.
My ex wife.
