Beware stealthy speed cameras in Spain.

All pedestrians crossing a road, especially kids between parked cars will always be very risky. Too risky one could say, especially if there are enough zebra crossings in place, however even if the traffic was limited to milk float speeds only, there will still be accidents when pedestrians dont take care.
Lets just hope non of us is involved in a such an episode, as drivers, we can only be so careful when an unseen kid comes out between parked cars on a scooter/skateboard and such like.
Maybe better to ban cars parking in town centres, would be a better way to address pedestrian safety issues.

The posts contained information that implies children or other situations can occur along a road with parked cars and other obstructions where people or children could appear in the road, why would you not see the risk and drive accordingly… as said many times the speed limit is not a target…
Maybe my IAM certificates, Trainer of Motorcycle instructors qualifications, police driving give me a view on what to look for, what limits are v targets v correct speed, hazard perception et al. But, in many places now a kph/mph over the limit by mistake is taken as an excuse to impose a tax. In the UK the allowance was (unofficially) 10% + 2mph. No good arguing that now with the Local Camera Partnerships.

Proper roads policing allows for discretion (as well as other offences being detected) and more often than not leaves the offender onside with the police rather than fuming and less likely to assist police with other matters.

I can never excuse speeding over the limit or what is safe under the circumstances but in urban areas all the road signs, warning signs, road markings and other visual distractions make it very hard to concentrate fully on speed. A kph or mph or two should never be a tax-raising matter.

I realise that most speedos over-read BTW

Interesting that in some cities in Europe removing the road markings and signs has reduced collisions and, ironically, speeds.

I'm so saint either. :giggle:

Oh don’t get me wrong I’m no saint either but I’m more aware when in built up areas, I just remember those adverts with kids saying if only you drove 5mph less i would have survived… remember them..?

Let’s face it these cameras are in another country and if it’s their laws and we want to drive around their country then we have to abide by their laws, we on here would be the first to complain if Johnny foreigner tried to tell us what to do…. But that’s all behind us now..😆

Is that a fact G-L?
Yes.
The speed limit is , a limit, not a target.

It should be possible to habitually drive 5kmph slower than the limit.
You would still be overtaken by any type of cyclists & even runners. You would be better off walking it would be quicker.
**just like earlier in a 20kph limit not only overtook me but riding no hands & on the phone.
And is the vehicle illegal with an unmarked appendage like that not included in its Homologation?
It would have to be homologated otherwise it cannot be legal. As long as it does not stick out past the width of the extended mirror it might be able to get passed without homologation as side runners & steps do.
Having looked at it again it would appear to exceed the width of the wing mirror so would need to be homologated. having said that most spaniards would take it out once they spotted it.
As for pedestrians you have to remember that here it is totally illegal in an urban environment to cross the road anywhere except at a set of green/amber lights ,when you have priority or using a marked crossing. Anywhere else is an 80€ fine + if you have just left a bar/been drinking a breathalyser, using the same scale as if you were driving, is also a likelihood.

Are you suggesting that a pedestrian can get fined for speeding after a drink

I’m assuming your at an age where you’ve been driving for many years and if you are unable to judge roughly what your speed is then please consider giving up driving, I’m sure the kids that accidentally walk into your pathway will appreciate it…. 😎

Oh to be so perfect!

Quite severe penalties.
Eg: Going over the limit by as little as 1km/hr = €100
Been like that in Germany for 20 years. The limit is the limit. No grace.

There is no excuse for speeding, select the right gear ( no not shorts t shirt and sunglasses) for maintaining the speed limit your in. Seriously if you can’t read the Speedo in KM’s it’s not hard to judge in MPH or get a GPS on on your Dash. If I could not stick to or just below the limit I would be hanging up my steering wheel and handing back my licence. (Harsh comment I know but it’s not hard to keep to a stated speed).

Anything that might help in slowing life down in this mad, materialistic world gets my support...

Rush rush rush.

Why?

The end we all arrive at is known in advance.

I don't really want to hurry to get there.

I like the smell of coffee and roses.

Now that we have left the EU are European countries still able to try and enforce fines in the UK and does the DVLA still provide them with driver/owner details?

Why not go and try, do you feel Lucky?

I think NO.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the DVLA still provides other European countries with drivers details for traffic/speeding infringement even tho for years European countries have not provided Uk authorities with their drivers details, but that’s uk all over, we act by the book while across the pond they do what suits them.

They haven't provided them because the Uk does not ask. The reason they do not ask is UK law requires the driver to be identified whereas in Europe it is the owner who has to pay the fine then, if points are involved & they were not driving, they identify who was.

Like the "Caravan cars" that leave there mirrors on when parked in town, The very old English sport of Joisting springs to mined, and the car is over width ! Knock em off !!
