Best Travel Insurance for the over 80's and over 50 days away from the UK?

I suppose f you want 5* cover then you could have to spend £800 to cover all eventuality's.
I'd be happy to be took home by ambulance van or even my own van.
I also asked my wife if she would pay £30,000 to have my body repatriated to the UK - she laughed:roflmto:
It would be cheaper to fly the whole family to Spain for a funeral. Plus they would also get an holiday out off it after the wake.:drinks:
After arresting, being resuscitated and having heart surgery? Wouldn't be sensible, friends so glad they had good insurance. could provide names etc for proof, this is not hearsay. He was taken straight to bis local hospital for further life saving surgery, he is doing ok now with his inbuilt defib but no longer holidays abroad.
Edited to add it is not the dying that is the problem or costly, but repatriating someone with complex needs, we have travelled without extra insurance when John was first diagnosed with prostate cancer, but the older we get the more likely it is that something will go wrong. Am happy with the GHIC and just wish you could get repatriation insurance only.

Don't they treat serious illness on the reciprocal heath agreement.
We would treat anybody here -no matter how serious.
I thought they were only looking for health insurance.
Yes but this is Britain, the soft touch, that's why everyone wants to come here.Just sayin

Try Staysure - I found them competitive
Was with them ,on renewal they would only cover me for 31 days as I am now 71 no matter if it was w/w or just eu multi trip so took out one with LV 90 days per trip includes cruise cover as well.

I’m a retired GP and I wouldn’t dream of travelling abroad without comprehensive medical cover. Never needed it yet but but the older we get the more likely it is to happen. It’s the repatriation bit that is so vital. If one of us has a non fatal stroke for instance, I want us back home where I understand the system and those administering my care, especially if it’s going to be long term. My snuff it policies are all in place and are more likely to be respected at home!

Where are you going to?
Don't you feel there is any value in the EHIC card?
EHIC fine until you need repatriating,,Then it becomes mind blowing expensive..BUSBY.

This coming year I considering using EuropePlus. This is GHIC top up cover, essentially it covers the parts, repatriation for example, that the GHIC does not cover. Very competitively priced and covers most existing conditions and even covers old grump's like me.

I supposed throughout the years and a life time of traveling (both 73 now) we have always been willing to take our chanced, mostly because we have needed any extra insurance.
So it seems very unlikely to happen now.
You can imagine the worst possible scenarios but they are very unlikely to ever be that bad.
I wont spend my life worrying about maybes :drinks:

Forking out for ferry's is never an issue as long as you have credit cards ----- or family and friends with credit cards.
I hope you're not gonna be one of those pleading poverty and wanting crowdfunding to be brought back home because you didn't bother to get your own travel insurance ... us funsters only have so much dosh to spare and we prefer to spend it on people who take care of their own responsibilities including ensuring they have the necessary funds, or insurance, to repatriate themselves ... so you must be loaded! :giggle:

Crowdfunding where did you get that idea?
I've never ever asked any one else for a bean. Throughout my life I have managed to survive on my own efforts - that will continue.
I have no problems with repatriation even if I need it - hopefully I can get home in my own. van.
You are still imaging the worst possible scenario - it just won't happen why would you need insure against it?

Just won't happen,,Famous optimistic words..I can think of 3 friends in the last few years who needed repatriation and only one was oldish..Wife's young sister,,50,,broken ankle and concussion ,,,another friend 55,,broke both legs in a scooter accident and a close friend 75,,heart attack,,,He was flown home in an air ambulance with medics,,Think you would have needed a mortgage to pay that bill, BUSBY.

I've heard of thousands that take holidays every year without ever making a claim.
I'm one of them 🤣😂

It was a joke!

There have been threads on here a few times about people (not funsters) who go abroad but don't take out travel insurance then expect others to donate funds to get them home when they've had an accident ... it tends to be people who are a bit 'younger' though as they think they're invincible.
