Sending you and your wife a HUGE hug.
or if in America, shoot the thieving bastard from the bedroom windowTrouble is, Joy, you can live in the nicest area and the thieving scrotes will go there for the nicest cars, equipment in sheds and garages etc....Lots of lights, a ding- dong type beam thingy and cameras if affordable.
Years ago American friends told me if you’re upstairs and you think someone is outside at your car, trying your house doors or windows, put on all the lights, open upstairs windows and lob something cheap out that will smash and make a noise.

It is called a hand grenade.open upstairs windows and lob something cheap out that will smash and make a noise.
Trouble is like , pepper spray, it comes under gun legislation so needs a licence . so you might as well shoot them.I’ve thought about buying a flare !

Nest get good reviews but aren't cheap and need a power supply at the camera.Every time I read posts like this I look at installing security camera but then struggle to find one with good recommendations. Everyone I look at has mixed reviews and all seem to be criticised for poor quality recording with pictures not good enough to identify faces.
So, questions are - what should I be fitting, should it be hard wired or will wireless be okay. Any suggestions appreciated.
Looks like a good image, what system did you install?
Nice quality, but too high. Hopefully some of the others are much lower so you have a good chance if identifying scumbags
I guess it’s a trade off of being high enough that they can not spray paint on the lenses, to low enough to get a good image of them.Nice quality, but too high. Hopefully some of the others are much lower so you have a good chance if identifying scumbags
If you are home I find the "broken beam" alarm very useful for who is walking round the property.
Lunch time over so i'll have to link later ?
Does your cctv give colour nightvision? And can you view the cameras on smart networked TVs?Home now so I'll start off with the outdoor (waterproof)CCTV I have. Not the cheapest that's for sure but 4K Ultra HD true detect cameras so they don't keep bloody going off every time the wind blows a plant around (True detect means they operate on both Infrared "heat source" AND motion detection.. both of which have to be activated to trigger the alarm notification to your mobile and recording of the footage.. Much much better quality than 1080 HD stuff (already have a few of those cameras around the house and they are crap compared to this new 4K Ultra HD setup.
It's a Swann 5580 DVR system connected to a free app called Home safe view.
The app pushes notifications of alarms and triggers to your phone so you can review the live footage (if you have a decent phone signal or wifi link) led in bed or on holiday in the middle of nowhere.
The broken beam alarm that I have for the driveway that points directly at the side of the MH is this one on Amazon.

Now that one you DO have to point at something that doesn't move about in the wind or it will go off, a wall or the side of the house or Motorhome seems to work perfectly for me. The sensor is battery operated and can be plonked anywhere. Range is pretty damn good, I tried it right down the end of the drive by the gate and put the receiver in the kitchen, worked a treat but since moved it closer to the cars as there were too many plants and bushes down the drive..
(bought mine in 2017) the alarm box is powered by one of those 240v >12v converters you just plug in the wall on a lead.
And finally for the garage I have a standalone IP camera inside the garage (not waterproof)
This is remotely controlled by an app called Eye4, this one again alarm (motion) triggers to my smart phones EMAIL. I can pan tilt and zoom this little sucker around to look in different directions via the smart phone but I do leave it pointing towards a wall as moving shadows from clouds / sunlight tend to activate it. Had this one years, and is powered by the USB port on one of my 240v facia sockets and linked back to my router in the house via wifi.. This one also has sound..
Quite like this one and it's a shame because it has some downsides.
It's not waterproof so can't be placed outside
It can't look through windows at night as the Infrared sensors just bounce the glare off the glass and white the lens out (but does provide great 0 LUX (black as the ace of spades) performance in the garage in the right environment.)
The video is recorded directly on the Micro SD card in the back of the camera, so if the thief spots the camera and nicks it, they also nick the footage.
This one is no longer available by the looks of it but there are a thousand others to choose from that do the same thing..

Hope that helps.
