Bump
Would be interested in the answer to that. I’ve also use the hot spot on my mobile phone (unlimited data) so only worth switching to something like TP Link M7350 if there’s some performance benefit - is there?
It won't be unlimited in Europe, most ocntracts are limited to 12Gb max in EU with most carriers. Tesco is only exception I'm aware of at mo.

The "bump" was related to a question about a Tesco sim...;)

Indeed, but it's hardly likely to last is it, everyone else has started charging/removing roaming from EU/limiting it, including RWG removing/lowering data amounts. I'm all for pointing our a good deal when they exist, but I'm not that convinced about Tesco not limiting people perosonally (though this is opinon not fact)..

UK wise we just renewed our (unlimited) EE sim for another 1.8 years for £280 (valid all this year and next, through Jan 8th 2026) from scancom (so just over £12/month) for unlimited data when in UK, and we have a Free (French) sim on way for our French adventures this summer. This one doesn't work abroad, but for the price and given our touring is mostly UK it's a bargain.

As RedFrame says an external antenna will usually provide a gain over the internal Ariel in a MiFi router or mobile phone. It's proximity to your chosen network providers mast that is key. A mast will broadcast at several frequencies, higher frequency signals provide a faster connection but don't travel as far as the lower frequency signals. The further away from the mast, the more you will rely on the lower end frequencies. An antenna that provides a gain at the lower frequencies will usually find a signal when you are out of range with a phone.

And when roaming in the EU your chosen network providers seem to expand to more than one...;)

I have EE with 25gb eu roaming. Have to pay a bit more monthly but worth it.

BTW antenna makes huge difference

Agree with that.

Just run a speed test on my iPhone connected via WiFi to the Teltonika RUTX12 and Poynting MIMO-3-17 antenna sitting here on the wet coast of Portugal. It’s showing 124.0Mbps down and 34.6 Mbps up. This is using the RWG ‘Big Data’ phone SIM (not data only).

Just using mobile data with the phone’s Vodafone SIM the figures are 24.7Mbps down and 6.8Mbps up. This is an excellent reception area but I’ve seen similar disparities when the signals are not so good.
I had 97 mb down and 43 mb up on 4g in Deinze, Belgium on a simple TP link router... I was using a Popit sim

We use the Mifi 5G Now Compact Pro with a 3 SIM and it has been really good; excellent in fact. What we have found though are the number of areas where reception isn't that great, particularly Norfolk/Suffolk, which we love, no matter what SIM we put in. We also want to do a fair bit of travel in Europe, and I do have to work whilst away, so we have today taken delivery of a Starlink, whilst it's on offer, which having just tested is absolutely awesome.

Fingers crossed we have all angles covered now.

For North Norfolk we've found you sometimes have to force the 3 SIM to 3g "only" as 4g it tended to stick on a sub-performing cell last summer (takes all of 2 seconds with the ZTE phone app - sounds like you have the same ZTE device as us). I'm planning on swapping the 5g compaco pro ZTE unit for a more modern Huawei unit this summer (still using roof antenna) to have more control over which frequency and band it sticks to, more so when 5g becomes more avaialble I have more control.

But yeah, Starlink is our long term plan now --- IF they reduce the price of it, as at £85/month it's more per month than the 3 sim costs per year.

Self employed people used normal bank accounts for most part -> there is no way of telling you are not a business unless you actuallly tell them -> I think it's covered on some other threads, I have many of my customers ( I supply/fit they get the sim) using these sims and I think most are retireees, althouhgh some do still work for themselves ocasionally selling stuff on ebay, so ... technically are a business still; They however have never told the vendor any of it.

So yes, it's a business only sim we use (I have multiple 2 from EE at momnet, and 4 from Three via scancom).

For most part there is no difference from a person using data on a sim to a business ... in fact a business is likely to use more!

The sim mentioned we got valid until Jan 26 is still valid, and working today (alongside 3 others). They are in fact a bit cheaper on the black Friday deals if they still exist as someone on here got one for £10.50 a month equivlent for a year I think last week.

The sims from amazon arrive working (I've never had to call them at least). So it's just wait for it, put it in device, done until renewal date. I would pay on a credit card (as we do for anything purchased online) in case they stop working so that section 75 applies, but I've been using simcards from this vendor since 2019 myself, so they've been doing these kind of deals for > 5 years now. They started selling on Amazon and actually got cheaper than direct!
Basically they seem unbeatable on price to me at least.

I have decided to fit a dedicated router in our van which I now have, I was looking for a cost effective data sim I could insert and forget about for UK usage, EE with its coverage was the network provider top of my list so thank so much for the informative response. The price as you point out is unbeatable. Thanks again, that's the bosses Christmas present sorted (y)
