What the best internet for motorhomes. As I need one that can connect my kids tablets and fire stick for tv ? Any help will be brilliant thank you

We use a TPLink M7350 mifi across Europe and the UK and it's never let us down. Depending where we are, we use either a Vodafone, Superdrug (Three) or IQ Go (EE) sim. They're really small, charge fast (you can also use it while it's charging, even as low as 1% charge) and very simple to set up and manage. I'm extremely happy with it :)

Use 5g wifi from Motorhome WiFi. Just toured France, Spain and Portugal and bought local sim cards. Used them constantly whilst working during the day on MS Teams calls, which are quite heavy on internet without any problems at all.

Or just turn your hotspot on, on your phone. We do this and have found it perfectly acceptable on many long UK and European jaunts. Particularly Europe as signal is so much better over there.

We've ben using a motorhome wifi 4g roof mounted aerial with a Huawei router full time for 4 years with no issues anywhere in the UK or Europe so can highly recommend it. It automatically connects to any of your devices within range as a wifi so no messing about setting up tethers or hotspots.

Got lots of devices especially kids and want to be sure of a brilliant internet connection then Starling is the only choice. Several devices on a hot spot with kids streaming will struggle.

I'm sorry but I don't understand your comment  The OP didn't say they needed an external aerial and my TP Link works perfectly well without :)
In weak signal areas it gives you a much better chance of getting some signal. We have been grateful for the external aerial on many occasions in the UK.

I have to say that we travel a lot and we've never been unable to get a signal with our TP Link. I guess if you go seriously out of the way it might be a problem but it's something we've never experienced :)

I have a Mifi router with an RWG 200 GB mobile sim, done this for past three years with no issues in Europe, upto 6 devices can be connected, as other posts have said external antenna is better but to date I have had no probs.

we go to the lakes a lot and on many occasions the phone signal was poor ,,3,,5,,meg,,take the sim out stick it in the neatgear router connected to the poynting,,? roof mounted antenna and we can get 10,,13,,that is a useable speed streaming ect 3,,is hopeless so i think its worth getting a roof mounted if your going out in the countryside

Out of the box, with the version that doesn't cost thousands, it doesn't.

Starlink has the best bandwidth and the best coverage. But the downsides are the cost, the power consumption and that it's supposed to be static.

You would have to flat mount it as others have done on the roof There is a huge thread in that
I have 5G aerial and ZTE mobile data on the move and pop the Starlink out when needed and always when in Europe due to data roaming. Takes 5 minutes to put it out. Very easy

There's a new dish antenna that I believe is the new default of you buy a setup. It's not got the motorised bits, just a kick stand. So it'll probably be easier to convert you a roof mount. But is different, so existing conversions won't work. And I believe it uses more power.

There is a half sized dish that's coming that's designed for mobile use with significantly lower power use. It's also likely to have half the bandwidth, but that'll still be a lot.

Have used huawei with motorhome Wi-Fi external aerial and without. Have to say the cost of the motorhome Wi-Fi additional bits is a waste of money. Just as good results without.

Hi Funsters,
Sorry to bomb in on this topic, i would also like some advise on internet connections and sim only wifi, has anybody (and i am sure some of you know this) used Tesco only pay as you go sim, on the website Tesco are saying that they are including data roaming at no extra cost, has anybody used the Tesco sim and if so is it good for streaming TV in Europe when we want to and for the laptop/Ipad when needed. I have been looking for the best sim that will include data roaming at no extra cost, also with the Superdrug Sim, is the data roaming for Europe included in the Pay as you go pack.

Having had a mifi , the cost of the extra sim and mucking around trying to get it working - the serious question is there much advantage over just hotspotting your phone if u have a unlimited contract like mine ?

There isn't any difference in a good signal area I completely agree -> it really depends where you tour.

It's however a different story in North norfolk in peak summer as it's the difference between 512K and 7Megabit, ie, between blocky TV receiption and HD.

For us as Norfolk/Suffolk regulars the amount of times our roof antenna has had signal and our phones have not (same network). Lakes, Wales and North Norfolk ALL have benefitted for us from a roof antenna, as without one we'd be like our neighbours without any signal.

Why not just buy a sim in the countries you visit? Free in France is good value on pay as you go as a good example, but also offers a decent roaming allowance (double of a UK sim) to other EU countries.

We will not be using our UK sims when roaming personally.

I've used a Tesco sim for years in UK and Europe, without issue. It would struggle supporting multiple streams though.

Would be interested in the answer to that. I’ve also use the hot spot on my mobile phone (unlimited data) so only worth switching to something like TP Link M7350 if there’s some performance benefit - is there?

Jewellbags too.

It's not the 4/5G device that makes the difference it's the antenna that you connect it to...;)

For example: a Huawei 4G Router on it's own wouldn't provide much advantage over a Phone Hotspot, but connect it to a decent omnidirectional antenna and you'll have signal where none existed before, and higher bandwidth in areas that you did.

Agree with that.

Just run a speed test on my iPhone connected via WiFi to the Teltonika RUTX12 and Poynting MIMO-3-17 antenna sitting here on the wet coast of Portugal. It’s showing 124.0Mbps down and 34.6 Mbps up. This is using the RWG ‘Big Data’ phone SIM (not data only).

Just using mobile data with the phone’s Vodafone SIM the figures are 24.7Mbps down and 6.8Mbps up. This is an excellent reception area but I’ve seen similar disparities when the signals are not so good.

Wow.... Those are amazing numbers for 4G...!!!
