"WHICH" Magazine Best Buys have recently published the results of their 2024 tests but unless you are a subscriber you cannot identify the Best Buy Free Software! Currently I use Windows Defender, and the free version of C-Cleaner, on my PC and hoping for something better. Can anyone help?

You have all you need with Defender, it's pretty good these days.

I didn't think you needed virus checkers any more. Just keep your windows updates ....up to date..

3 years 30,000 miles UK and Europe.. Campsites and off Grid.
Not used any 3rd party protection for 6 years and not had an issue. Windows defender seems to be good enough.

More than toes wet now!
Dropped CCleaner and Avast a few years ago due to privacy issues.

Microsoft's own anti-virus is now rated very highly in a number of reviews of free software. Also run AdwCleaner Free and Malwarebytes Free but they've yet to find anything getting passed the MS software.

Good morning. The top Best Buy free antivirus software in the Which? survey is Bitdefender, followed byAvast One Essential and AVG Antivirus Free.

Even Microsoft admit that Defender isn't a proper AV solution.

When I was in the AV game at McAfee, the best free one was AVG.

I wouldn't pay much value in the Which reports. Same testers who test washing machines and lawn mowers and everything else they test ;).

Need to get a proper testing situation with qualified testers.

Windows Defender and applying updates as soon as they come out.
Don't download files from anywhere but the most trustworthy sites.
Never click links in emails.

That is my top 3 advice for Windows users.

Not quite! That's 2, 3 and 4.(y)

What about number 1?

Dump Windows and switch to Linux?:whistle2::wink:
I long stopped recommending it. People will move if they want to and I have better things to do than trying to persuade people of the superiority of Linux :p :D
