Just about to buy
Having blown the life savings on the van, what do you recommend as the best budget security, apart from a great big dug.

We are not very screwdriver competent, unless it's in a glass.

You can't beat a hidden kill switch ...... even if they break in your house and steal the keys its still not going to start......as for keeping them out ....the loudest alarm you can buy.
The more locks you fit the more damage they cause trying to get in..... once saw a van that had been broken into using a spade to rip open the hab door ....... insurance probably wrote the van off.

This is what I went with. ATE clutch lock. About £60 and will slow someone down. Hidden kill switch. I have cheap vibration sensors on the doors and in my surfboard. Inside a eufy camera and outside two solar powered eufy cameras approx £50-70 each ( wireless solar powered and walk by sensor lighting ). I have a nighthawk router that connects to the cameras via wi fi. My theory is this , someone tries the door , it sets off the vibration sensors, the camera then reports a noise alert to me on the app and I can see what’s going on at the van thru all three cameras Also. Cheap Garmin dashcam is uploading in parked mode. Plus a few Apple tags on the van and surfboard , bike for location tracking . I accept that my approach is only about slowing bad guys down as much as possible. I would also look into the plates that go over the ignition barrel , a lot of sprinters are stolen by some method where the barrel is removed and a reprogrammed key used I think. Be consistent , go through your lock up procedure every time you leave your van out of sight.

A cheap security upgrade is to lock the drivers seat in the reversed position. A lot of us use the Oxford Patriot motorcycle brake disc lock 👍

I went for a growler and metatrak system from Vanbitz, it's so loud if they get in trust me they won't stay, also the blue flashing LEDs on the outside send a message, pricey but you only get what you pay for..

I leave my van open all the time never lock the doors. My budget friendly security just works.

I have been in the security industry all my life (Alarms and CCTV). Sometimes some easy cheap logic actions compliment the alarm/trakers. I have a Burstner A class and what I do is turn my front seats to face the rear and have them folded down with the front bed dropped down on top of the seats. I cannot imagine a thief being able to undo all that with 3 internal sirens blasting. Remember thieves are generally lazy- they want the easiest quickest getaway. If you have more defences than the motorhome in the next street they will go there. The Police call it Crime Prevention- I call it Crime Displacement. Also, steering locks and wheel clamps slow them down and make their job more difficult

I'd of thought most immobilisers would be reasonably hidden, I've no idea where mine is.

Well, where do I begin?

Firstly, it look's like you're a George, just like me! And,yes, my wife says, I must have taught Victor Meldrew!! "Tight and moaning"!!

Just to say, you can have the cheapest or the dearest security on your house, car or van. But if they are determined to break in, they will!
Just remember, that most break-in's, they don't stay very long, as it's mostly a "grab and go".

You can have all the bells and whistles or just leave the door unlocked so they don't damage the locks!!!

Good luck on your choice...
