We are looking for a Motorhome must be auto and have a large garage which will fit 2 electric bikes. Prefer 4 berth as probably take grandchildren on shorter trips. For Europe trips will be just the two of us.

Have seen in person the Benimar range but was not 100% sold on these. Going to view Swift Voyager 540 and possibly a Chausson 640. Any other suggestions would be great or comments on the ones I have mentioned.

Thanks in advance.

We definitely would consider used and probably after to speaking to a local dealer this morning he suggested used would be better as you will get a higher quailty MH. He didn't have anything that would suit our needs at present so was not just saying this to try and get a sale! Any ideas on models we could consider? Don't really want anything above 7m in length.
As above mentioned , select motorhomes , the Hymer sounds good, Simon is on here 👍

Not much help, but we have a 27 month old Hymer BMCT 600 Whiteline, good spec, wouldn’t part with it even though by all accounts Hymer quality is not what it was apparently. New now my spec is getting towards £120K, which is silly money! If I was buying now I wouldn’t bother or go used. I understand the older Hymers are better quality so worth some research. There are models below 7m, ours is 7.19m. However, the main point is that about the 7m mark you are looking at a large garage with double or two single beds over. Our garage is ginormous and 4 shorter trips easily holds our two eBikes and lots of other stuff. For longer trips where like to take shed loads of stuff (I never use half the time) including a larger Dometic awning, a field kitchen, … we put the eBikes on a tow bar rack.

We are in a similar boat with the grandkids but couldn’t justify the extra £10K for the BMCI 600 Whiteline just for the front drop down bed. When the grandkids are old enough to come with us, my wife and I will use the Dometic awning as a tent and kit that out for us, the grandkids can have the van beds. Much cheaper solution IMHO. We spent 30 years tent camping anyway before we bought the Hymer!

Hi, recently bought a Bailey Adamo 75-4i ( 4i stands for Island bed!) but there are other layouts if needed. The Garage is large and designed for bikes. (Can nearly stand in it!) Cost £75,000 but good second hand earlier models can be found but demand for these is high and they do not stick around on forecourts long, check with dealers etc. For my wife and I they are 'spot on' and are 4 berth, the second bed is assembled from the Table and cushions etc, but No problem for Grandchildren etc. The island bed is 6' and of course 'in / out from both sides!!!. Look at the Bailey website. Hope this helps.

We have a chausson 640 and can confirm there are 4 travelling seats. Having said that though, whilst you can make up four berths, (a double by making up the bench seats) with the drop down bed lowered half way). I would not like to be sleeping under the drop down bed, nor would i want my grandchildren to be in the underneath position. (Unlikely though it might be, I would be worried it could drop further by itself, or the button could be pushed accidentally.) It is more suited as a two birth.

There are so many to choose from but beware of going for the Biggest garage as you will find that there is a weight limit of the rear axle and typically you are restricted to 150Kg in the rear garage without modifications. Payload is often ignored by dealers so its worth reading up on Payloads as each vehicle is different!

Not sure whether this comes within budget for you but we have an Adria 670dc. Large garage with big access doors on each side, island bed and drop down double at the front. Our requirements are very similar to yours and it works perfectly for us. Great build quality too. Good luck!

A newbie on here...Hello all....I have had motorhomes since 1990 on and off.I decided to buy new in 2022 Biggest mistake ever. I bought a Bailey Autograph 794i.Nothing but problems since day 1.Snag after snag including going back to factory for a new side wall.Constant wait for new parts. If I had my time again I would have bought a high end German van about three years old Reliability is a big plus when it comes to leisure vehicles and build quality the most important consideration. While I love the layout of the Bailey the quality of some things leaves a lot to be desired. If they could improve on QC then it would be a van to beat.

The Chausson 660 is a 4 berth (drop down bed) plus the seats make up a double, is based on a Ford chassis and is automatic. At 6.99m in length it is very roomy and to cap it all it has a very large walk-in garage with a second door into the garage area, also accessible from the inside. We bought ours new last April under £80k, may be some around second hand at a lower cost. I really enjoy ours and recommend you take a look.

We started motor homing in 2013 with a 2010 Autotrail and luckily it leaked within the first 6 months used warranty so it got fixed for free. 4 berth but only 2 belted seats. Got rid in 2018 after a long search for a quality secondhand German van. Now very happy with our Niesmann & Bischoff Arto 88f 3 litre Fiat Comformatic Auto - 2 double beds and 4 belted seats. I was a bit daunted at the start with the 9 metre length tag axle but quickly got used to it and love all the room and the big garage.

We had considered a Knaus before our Rapido - there appears to be a new Knaus 640 Skywave model on a MAN auto a bit above budget £86k at SMC - nice quality - just under 7m, with twin singles and a drop down double. Although above budget it is very well equipped.

Have a look at a Pilote P696d it is under 7M has a large garage and is a 2+2, I.e. it has 4 seatbelts and a large drop down bed (which can be left made up) and if only partially lowered will allow the lounge seating to be made up into a bed for the little ones who visit occasionally. The added benefit of the drop down bed is that it leaves you with loads of living space, more or less the same as if you had a van 2m longer with a fixed bed, we have the smaller P626d and live it as so much easier to manoeuvre around tight spaces.

Burstner also do a similar layout in their Lyseo Harmony range. Good luck

Big shout out for the Chausson 640, had ours new in 2019 and it’s been a perfect package is space/ comfort and practicality. Only suggestion I’d make is have rear air suspension fitted (only c£1k) as running it with lots of water in and weight in garage I felt it rolled a bit more than I liked but perfect now. Any questions you have on them I’d be delighted to answer, bought ours from Highbridge who treated us great after local dealer uninterested.

Very simple, if you’re bothered about grandkids in the bottom bed then just do like us and sleep down there with them above us, they come with the bassinets. Having studied the mech though there’s no way the bed can drop without the switch being activated, if you’re really being concerned someone might touch the button then just turn the power off above the passenger seat. It’s such a brilliant Moho for a 6.99 size with big garage mountains of room inside it’s definitely worth looking into

We have a Dethleffs 7057. 9 speed automatic, large garage. Its 7.4m though. We love ours. Ours is island bed which rises and lowers depending what's in the garage. At the moment we have 2 electric bikes in there. It has 4 seat belts and the table lowers into a bed. Never done this the cushions are in the loft. But you can get a drop down bed also.

Recently purchased a two year old Mclouis Fusion 367 which may meet most of your requirements, 4/5 travelling seats, rear island bed together with drop down bed, big garage for my wife's mobility scooter and under 7m

We have a 2018 Frankia 680 F-Line coachbuilt. Brilliant build quality with a double bed overcab plus double bed conversion of the rear lounge, and easily enough room/weight capacity for two ebikes.

Should be in your price range if you can find one for sale.....

We have a Bailey Adamo 694 that would meet most or all of your requirements and is great for 2 people. You would need to consider if the arrangements for the second bed under the large drop down bed will suit you and grandkids.
I have to also mention that whilst the layout is great the quality of the build and choice of some components left much to be desired - if you can get a second hand one that’s been sorted out then that may be win. Good luck with your search

We have a Burstner Ixeo 680tl. 6.9m length. Drop down double bed. 4 seatbelts. Garage takes our 2 hybrid electric bikes (taking the front wheels off). So pleased with it not seen anything to touch it. Build quality what you expect from a German manufacturer. Had an Autotrail before and it leaked like a sieve.

Probably get diesel heating with Chausson which we think is better than gas bottles , that leaves you gas bottles for cooking. Van building quality no better than others, just our opinion
