We will be staying in Salzburg this summer and would like to visit Berchtesgarden. I'm guessing there aren't any issues with visiting from Austria for the day?

Last year we stayed at Panorama Camping and took an excursion to the Eagle's Nest, very easy no fuss or stress.

Mrs W also went on a Sound of Music tour and loved it.

It seems possible to drive there, but still need to get on a special bus to the top.

There shouldn’t be any issues. We crossed through Austria and stayed on a site at at Berchesgarden last September but couldn’t visit Eagles Nest due to snowfall. We had been previously in September though and stayed in one of the parking areas overnight in order to get ahead of the hordes. There can be long queues for the busses and in the tunnel for the lift. Very worth planning being either up early or late in the day.
If possible try not to plan ahead by booking as you really don’t want to go up on a cloudy or rainy day.

Last year was the second attempt at visiting the Eagles Nest, the first time weather put a stop, but second time lucky.
Eagles Nest..webp

If you have time, Konigsee a beautiful lake near Berchesgarden is well worth a visit. There is also the Jennerbahn a cablecar there that takes you to the top of the mountain for stunning views.

Have no worries, its normal here to flip back and forth over the border, we do it for cheaper diesel usually .... and we are actually in Obersalzberg ( under the Eagles nest) right now, we came the quicker route which dipped in and out of Austria...

Did it on the bus from Camping Nord in Salzburg, easy enough with a bit of forward planning particularly locating the bus stop which isn’t an obvious location at Salzburg station.

Hi.
Did the same a few years back. Konigsee Lake and " Dogs ". Went down to the entrance for the boat trips and asked about taking the dog. " Hund ? Yes.". so oft' we went. Pulled up near the centre of the water and a chap started to blow a Trumpet and the sound echoed around the hills. Magic
Did not know at the time, but boats a going around all day...so.. You can hop off at one landing stage and catch the next ferry to suit yourselves and carry on.
If i remember rightly, there are signposted walks at the landing jetty's around the lake,so if you are a walker/whatever,you can make a full day of it if you plan ahead and go early.
Site we stayed at with the c/van. Winkl Landthall. campsite... Bischoswiesen. Bike trails nearby and nice walks
WAS metered leccy THEN.
There were two trips laid on from the site, one was to some music makers place and the other to some caves. This was...SOME years ago. Stay well, stay LUCKY.
Tea Bag.
PS. While there, some crowd up on top of the mountain were felling trees..... and a Helio-co-peter was getting to or three trunks in a sling and bringing them down. The speed he came down at,i thoght when he goes to slow down........ The Rotors would...
Abandon ship !! They didn't (y) ;)

It really is a lovely place to visit, glad you enjoyed it Tea Bag. Our daughter lives near Salzburg, so we know the area well.
