Beginner's Guide to Gaslow Refilling

Buy at least one spare plastic cover for the filling point on the van.
Then it won't be quite so embarrassing when you leave you cover on the top of the LPG pump.
Fortunately our LPG pump was fairly local, and they saved the cover for us.
Still, lesson learned.

And as Basildog keeps reminding us, losing the cover and not replacing it can lead to debris entering the inlet, with potentially catastrophic consequences.

Being a Gentleman, I won't ask what you were doing in B&Q's bushes just before Christmas :whistle2:

Hi, I have been using Gaslow for over 10 years and there are very few problems, except when abroad especially in Italy (where they use 3 different adapters in different areas) making sure you have the right adapters. In a lot of places they dont like the gas locker being opened ( thereby revealing the gas bottles) so keep the adapters in the drivers door pocket. In some places you might have to tell a little fib saying its for your " hybrid" engine as some will not allow filling of gas bottles. I have never turned the valves off to refill, and only wear one glove. In a former life I used to fly balloons where we would regularly have to refill 4 x 60L tanks, sometimes twice a day, so perhaps I am a little un-fazed. If you are mindful of the danger its no different to filling your car with petrol. As an aside I once witnessed a biker in Spain, sitting astride his bike filling his tank with a fag hanging out of his mouth! Maybe he had a deathwish, I didn' t hang about to find out!

Hi folks, I agree with many about gloves. I found the adapter(s) for use in Europe can stick and the threads are sharp. With strong gloves you can take them off ok but without your hand can end up with cuts around the thumb joint. While no one wants to look like a plumb on the forecourt, take your time. You don’t get a prize for releasing gas or breaking a fitting because you rushed.

Has Rick@62 blown up or was it a success?

No, he was online earlier today :)
Hi all and apologies for not replying sooner.

I had to cancel the refill as the heating system decided to have a fit and not play anymore.

Couldn’t get gas flowing from number 1 cylinder despite it being half full, the valve being fully open and the Collision Shut Off button still being recessed and not deployed. Then it did work for about 20 seconds with gas coming through the three gas hobs but they then died too! Weird.

Tried swapping cylinders, number 1 now shut off and number 2 fully on. This time the gas stayed on with the hobs but still nothing doing with the heating. Swift Command panel came up with numerous causes. Hence why I was on here in between emailing and sending videos clips to the dealer to try and fix things.

Back to cylinder number 1 only on again and this time I had gas flow with the hobs lit and staying lit but the heating was still on strike🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I already had it booked in with the dealers to have some warranty work done so they are going to address this issue too.

Many thanks for all the hints, tips and advice given. I had already sorted a decent pair of gloves and that YouTube video link was very helpful, thank you. It looks like I’m going to have to wait until the faults have been rectified before attempting a refill now but I appreciate everyone taking the time to post…… especially about not smoking at the same time as refilling!! Now who would have thought….😁👍

Cheers all.

Rick.

Evening all. Tomorrow I’m going to have a go and fill my Gaslow system for the first time. I’ve only used about half of the first cylinder but I thought I may as well give it a go.

I know I have to ensure both cylinder valves are closed off and that they only fill to 80% but is there anything else to be aware of? Any hints tips or tricks?

Cheers in advance.

Rick.
When you release after filling there will be a release of gas from the connection, it is a bloody frightening noise for the time, I must of jumped at least two foot off the ground.

I still get very nervous, even to the extent of re watching those U Tube videos every time I think I’m going to need to refill.
Perhaps it’s nerves but it never seems as easy for me as the female on one of those videos!
One time, in Asda, couldn’t get it to fill. Went to the kiosk to be told there was always a problem with that pump. I felt relieved, it wasn’t me, then frustration,if they knew that why didn’t they put a notice on the pump? I’d blocked that side of the PFS for ages. I was worried that the colour of my face and the radiant heat was going to be a fire risk.
Abroad, not so bad, I’ll never see those people again! Just another stupid foreigner.

Make sure connectors are dry and clean (some commercial ones sit outside rather than in pump. Given how cold it all gets, they can freeze together (don’t ask me how I know…)

I count myself as very lucky, I only fill up at Marquis in Exeter as we pass though on our way out or on our way back to Cornwall.
They have very nice staff that do it for you ;-)

Are you having a laugh in the UK .The only time you see them outside is smoke time
I is not from the UK I is from España...pump attendant people is common here.🇪🇦😂

I think all the pumps I use, it would be difficult to hold the connected end at the same time as pressing the button. I still wear the gloves as I have known it splash a small amount when disconnecting. Also the locking lever at our local Morrisons hasn't had a sleeve on for ages. Grab it to release when you have dispensed the gas, and it's flipping cold!
Thought Morrison’s had taken all their autogas out of use???

There was a fair bit of speculation on here that this would be inevitable when MFG took over the forecourts but it doesn’t seem to have happened.

All the outlets we've used ( a grand total of five , two in the UK) all insisted on them operating the pump so other than as an observer I've never done it but as others have said. Once it slows filling stop , don't stop prematurely or it will reset and some places have a minimum spend of £10 . It all seems fairly straightforward provided that you have the correct adapter if you are abroad.
Crikey, you’re lucky, I’ve never had anyone offer to fill mine up. Ever.
