By way of reply to those who suggest I am recommending shorting out the battery by touching the positive battery lead with the disconnected negative battery lead let me say the following:
Disconnect the battery earth lead and touch it directly or by an extension cable to the positive battery terminal for approximately 10 seconds to remove any static present in the cabling and then to reconnect the earth lead to the negative battery terminal.
After doing this both my remote key fobs worked perfectly."
2. My post asked for a photo, if possible, of the battery earth
lead that attached to the negative battery terminal as referred
to in the quoted post above. I asked for the very reason that
it sounded dangerous to touch the connected positive
battery lead with this disconnected battery earth lead.
Thanks for all the posters who have posted the correct way to dissipate the charges after disconnecting both cab battery leads. When I can get to the van, I'll try this and report back. As Arthur Askey said "I thank you."
