Battery negative earth lead

By way of reply to those who suggest I am recommending shorting out the battery by touching the positive battery lead with the disconnected negative battery lead let me say the following:
  1. It is not my suggestion. It was following a thread which I cut and paste below:
"I have just had the same problem with my 2015 Peugeot Boxer Autocruise conversion, fortunately I have a friend who is a Peugeot Technician and I was advised to:
Disconnect the battery earth lead and touch it directly or by an extension cable to the positive battery terminal for approximately 10 seconds to remove any static present in the cabling and then to reconnect the earth lead to the negative battery terminal.
After doing this both my remote key fobs worked perfectly."

2. My post asked for a photo, if possible, of the battery earth
lead that attached to the negative battery terminal as referred
to in the quoted post above. I asked for the very reason that
it sounded dangerous to touch the connected positive
battery lead with this disconnected battery earth lead.

Thanks for all the posters who have posted the correct way to dissipate the charges after disconnecting both cab battery leads. When I can get to the van, I'll try this and report back. As Arthur Askey said "I thank you."👍

I've been out to the van today to prepare for the fridge service and decided to try the following suggested by TheBig1:
Disconnect the battery negative terminal and move the lead away from the battery post.............................. Then wait about 30 minutes to allow for the capacitors to self discharge, with no need to short the ECU and BCM

I left the negative lead disconnected for over an hour but, on reconnecting, the key fob still wouldn't operate the door locks. Tested the fob battery again and it's fine.

So will have to try Deneb's instructions at post #28 after the service on Friday.

Are you sure I don't need to try this at midnight, in the nude, near a dead oak filled with skunk-water whilst howling at the moon? Modern van electronics? Pah! :giggle:
