Good morning we have a Malibu T430 2024 and on hook up the batteries are not charging. When you take the van for a run the batteries do charge up. There is electricity coming into the van as the fridge and heating are working ok. We are going away for a few days tomorrow and are popping into the dealership to see if they can rectify the problem. Also the van battery has dropped voltage from 12.8v to 12.2v in the space of 16 hours is this normal.

Have you tried the really obvious, is the charger switched on? On our Swift there is a green push switch on the Sargeant unit under one of the seats that turns the charger on or off. If the charger is working then the 12v habitation voltage is usually sitting at over 13v.

On some vans Carthago, so probably Malibu, wire the Media through the starter battery. Using the tv turns on the head unit (radio) for sound which can be quite a draw on the starter battery, especially if the Media button is not switched off overnight. I switch off the head unit and use an external speaker for the tv.
As stated, make sure the charger is actually switched on.

A battery not being charged can easily drop from 12.7 to 12.2 in that time, it all depends on the power that is being drawn from it. To do the sums you need to know the amp hours of your battery(s) and what you have that uses electricity running in the van (watts).

We had the same problem only last week. The charger had turned off for the first time in 6 years. We had plugged into a site in Spain. The blurb for the charger says it is protected against reverse polarity and I can only surmise that this means it turns itself off. Changed sites, pressed the red button and now all is well.
