Bath Clean Air zone

40,000 across Europe (not 400,000)
I still think that is someone playing with statistics.

If you extrapolate the 40,000 claimed, by the number of stoves today (an average of way less than one per house), and then compare it to the number of open fires of say 50 years ago, (an average of more than 3 per house), millions would have died every year.
I'll grant you quite a few did in the smog's, but it was not millions every year.

Whilst I'm not saying they don't have a point, I think they are exaggerating a small issue many fold.

(One wonders if there is a hidden agenda here, no government likes its populace to have free energy, you cant tax it, you cant sell it)
If the numbers are that high I think we need a lockdown....!

Personally, and I’m going to get torn to shreds for this,,but I don’t really care,,if the older people of this country need to keep warm and healthy they should use whatever means are needed, I think they have earned that rite,, it’s the BIG companies and countries that need the talking to,,if my parents were alive I’d be happy to burn anything to keep them here,,just my view 👍
This about China.... anything we do personally is just p***ing in the wind.

A total of 247 gigawatts of coal power is now in planning or development, nearly six times Germany’s entire coal-fired capacity. China has also proposed additional new coal plants that, if built, would generate 73.5 gigawatts of power, more than five times the 13.9 gigawatts proposed in the rest of the world combined.

Just driven through Bath on the way to Longleat and although I was aware of the clean air zone I didn't think our route would be in in the zone, now not sure we came in on the London road and saw some signs and just managed to squeeze over the Cleveland bridge , didn't spot the cameras .
Just have to wait and see, anyone know where the cameras are located ?

You were in the zone when you went over the cleveland bridge............

Sorry, you have probably been caught.
See details here.

You have 6 days to pay the £9. Welcome to the unhappy club

I've just checked my 2004 Boxer based Autocruise on the Gov website, here: <Broken link removed>.

It's £9 for Bath, £8 for Birmingham.

I reckon with PX it'll cost me at least £40K to upgrade to a vehicle with a Euro 6 engine. That's 5000 visits to Bristol or 5625 to Brum.

As long as MH under 3500kg, otherwise £100 unless pre-registered on Bath CAZ website.☹️

I checked as my bus is 4.6 tonne and it says £100 ?

I have looked at the clean air zone and as previously mentioned I would appear to have wandered into the zone but does anyone know where the cameras are actually located ?

My motor home is registered at 3850kg and shows on the checker as heavy goods vehicle with no charge for Bath, Birmingham or Portsmouth. It is Euro 6.

I think mine classed as euro 4
so not looking so good.

I think weight makes a difference too, over 3500 = dearer.

Can advise as far as ive checked on gov website says:
2012 Honda pcx 125 scooter ok
2020 2.3 MH (euro 6d) ok
Hybrid petrol car ok
However that's not London which I think is another story.

I am not against clean air zones, however it is really not easy to avoid the Bath one especially in a larger vehicle when some of the cut around routes are through narrow roads. It is wrong when no alternative except to travel on further, emitting more and maybe clogging up other roads.
I think that there should be at least a first offence small fine. All these CAZ notices and Bus Gate notices become “street furniture noise” when trying to navigate in unfamiliar territory.

If they want to clean up the air they need to ban polluting vehicles completely from the city centre and provide free park and ride and free buses for everyone, not just say ' hi yes you can still come in but you need to pay £9'. What does the £9 actually pay for?

The trouble is, that’s it’s not just a question of going into Bath, it’s how to travel around and beyond it with no good alternative road.

I agree it is hard to find suitable alternative routes around Bath.

So actually the clean air zone in Bath won't really stop people driving through if it's going to take longer and use more fuel to go around, they just have to pay a 'toll' to use the road through. That's a nice money making idea for the council. Not much less traffic just lots of £9's. It would be more effective to build some sort of bypass for the through traffic surely?

I take the long route, it probably uses no more fuel because Bath is stop start all the way through. Also emissions when the engine is idling are much worse than when the vehicle is in motion.

Note, phgv motorhome, euro5 or lower is £100 fine.
If you register the vehicle beforehand, with photos , and wait up to 6 weeks it is then £9.

Crossing Bath, if from north go onto Bristol ring road, take A4 towards Bath.
After Saltford at Newton St Loe take 2nd exit, this is at roundabout with Globe Inn.
This takes you around the south west of Bath, bit hilly but wide roads.
You can then eventually turn right for Radstock,
Or carry on past sainsburys and turn right at petrol station double mini roundabout for Midford and Frome. This will eventually meet A36 at Woolverton.

Reverse of this might suit KUSKUS if going home!

The other route to east of Bath is A46 from m4 and do not enter Bath but carry on to Bradford on Avon, thro BoA to Rode, then west to join A36 at Beckington.

The signs and cameras do not exactly stand out.
Start of clean air zona sign on left hand side of Lodon Road about 400yds before turn to cleveland pace.

Cameras are on the top of the lamp post with the turn to cleveland place about 150-200yds before turn

THe only warning signs appear to be these.

The exit from the A46 roundabout to London Road (can you spot it on the Bath/Warminster sign?)

This one is too late and there is nowhere to turn to avoid the zone.

Thanks for that information, looking like I better just pay the £100 and put it down experience rather than waiting for the envelope to drop through the door and paying an extra £50 .
Thanks for everyone's input much appreciated.
Note to self don't ever go near Bath again !

Next month is the 125th anniversary for the London to Brighton run and the run starts from the middle of the new ULEZ zone, I wonder if any of them will be fined ?
