Van conversion
Hi everybody. New member here. Looking forward to some good times
We are on our 4th motorhome (if you count a vw california we had for a few years). After a year with our latest model , a 7.5 metre adria, we've decided to stick with it for a while longer ( unfortunately it hasn't been without problems during that time) and I'm now looking to do some add ons. I don't know whether it's our imagination but this van seems to suffer more from bangs and rattles than any of the others. Even more so than the swift kon tiki we had in late eighties. Hence I'm considering air suspension. What are peoples thoughts on this and especially fitting rear or full? Driving back home on the m20 last week after the tunnel was horrendous. Like driving down a railway track!
Thanks for any replies
Steve

It's an adria matrix supreme 670sc. Registered last year, 22, in April. Its our 4th motorhome and definitely the most expensive!
We've gone from a 2007 post converted and DIY'd PVC to a 2000 registered a-class from Geist. I believe Geist are fairly well built and spec'd?... It's way noisier than the van.

Isn't it just awful !!! Just can't understand why HMG wastes so much money on ... well you know what and doesn't upkeep the infrastructure. Mind you Belgium and Luxembourg is just as bad.

I've been a few times in recent years. 5 years ago I would have agreed. But they appear to have road maintenance programmes and we don't. I think UK roads are clearly worse now.

The condition of English roads is an absolute disgrace. I don't know if other parts of the UK are any better, although I did see resurfacing of long stretches of A roads in north Wales a couple of years ago.

When you consider the vast amount of taxes levied on vehicles and their drivers, the government and its agencies really should be wholly ashamed of themselves.

I know of local potholes on major road that took months to patch and those patches are crumbling already

There needs to be a serious rethink over where HMG spends the tax payers money... but thats not a debate for here.

Indeed, and there is a relevant thread here:

Broken Link Removed

It is, however, a pretty poor state of affairs when the expense of tyre changes and fitting air suspension is having to be contemplated when the real problem is poor road surfaces.

Went down to East Sussex and over to West Sussex the other weekend, home along the M25, it has been mentioned before, what ar.s. decided on that concrete?
He should be made to sit in a motorhome on route so he knows what’s it like.
Don‘t even talk to me about roads in South Bucks and we pay exorbitant Council Tax.

They're spend nearly a £1 billion on 10 miles of dual carriageway near Bedford. A428. No tunnels, elevated sections or deep cuttings. Why spend so much on new roads (which will still get congested in a few years) when the existing stuff is in such a bad state?

Stopping rattles is an ongoing project for us and many motorhomers. Yes that section of the m20 is awful.

For those of you who don't live in Kent (unlike myself), you may have missed it, but the local news a few weeks ago carried a report which said that the leader of Kent County Council had declared the roads in the county to be in 'managed decline'. Pretty much sums it all up. It's bad enough trying to avoid the potholes in a vehicle with four wheels, it must be absolutely terrifying on two!

Only other tip I can offer is to line drawers, cupboards etc with silicone mats etc, even between plates. I’ve done this and difference is significant. I haven’t upgraded to air suspension or reduced pressure in my Michelin Agilis tyres but noise level has reduced. I’ve got containers for everything and am now at the point where I’m able to detect a new rattle!

I’ve kinda got used to travelling in a cutlery drawer with wheels. Noise cancelling headphones are now a must.
