Bailey Forums

Like it or not, the OP has a point about aggression and I would say a good deal of disrespect for his perfectly valid point of view. We may not agree with him/her, but surely they shouldn't be attacked for daring to raise the issue in such a way.
It's disappointing that some of this invective is coming from long term members who I would have thought would have a little more patience.
I'll get me coat...

Well I have just spent 30 minutes on seatcupra.net a lot of talk about cars and I did drift away to reading about hybrid turbos (electric motor driven turbo) I didn't realise you could buy and retrofit them, anyway not much about motorhomes so I am back(y)

Did you miss me:LOL:

Crikey , what a nonsense thread:doh:

They weren’t aggressive responses. I thought they were very reserved.

Despite being a life member I am still well in profit from discounts received as a result of being a member(y)

Some people are so short sighted:rolleyes:

I’m saying nuffink. :gum:

Am reading this in lovely Auxerre, lovely warm evening and can only agree with others that this site is so informative why if spending the kind of money to do this fantastic lifestyle would you query a mere £15. We talked to a couple a few nights ago who had just spent upwards of £80k on M/H and I’m telling them about Fun and the cost per year and savings etc but you could tell it was not registering.
The OP is I’m sure a wind up, too many forums to be involved in or I’m seriously out of touch with things. Or of course as Jim replied.

I missed the "Aggression" can you point it out? Thanks
As an example,
"It seems that you know the price of everything but the value of nothing
Get on that free Swift forum for the best info on your Bailey!!"

Also, sad to say your own sarcastic "missing you already"
I'm probably in the minority here, but I find this type of sniping, rude, yes aggressive and disrespectful
All of course IMHO

I suppose the op was just as rude to suggest Jim is getting rich at our expense. So does that mean we're mugs paying subs? That can be considered as mildly insulting too if you're a bit of a Polyanna.

If the OP is buying a Bailey then perhaps he should join a DIY Forum instead ..

I think you'll find most people recognised the OP for what he was, essentially a Troll, posting only to garner a response.

I suspect some folks may not be happy with this post!
I suspect this post may bet pulled before I get answers but shall wait & see!

As it happens, the responses he got were rather restrained i thought. There were far more than the one helpful post he acknowledged. While his rebuttals were in the manner he started his post. "robust" they were never "aggressive" nowhere near it.

I did start a long post rebutting his assertions but lost the will to live. Thats what trolls want. Missing you already much more appropriate and not giving him the satisfaction.

Why is the OPs name written in Black now? Green for unpaid, blue for members, what’s black for please?

The Black Death.

Or timed out if you prefer that.

If that is the case someone is creaming off some money, even if only 2000 members this equates to £30k pa! a nice little earner for someone.
You are obviously out of touch with the real world. I take it you haven't a clue of the cost of setting up servers with back ups that can sustain the hit rate this site gets and the amount of time that goes into monitoring the forum, setting up deals with suppliers for members benefits, not much left to get an income from.
I think you are sad selfish person.

@Lindab1956, well, having done a few assistant marshall roles at our larger meets, I can tell you that the loyal membership on here is as wide a selection of the motorhome/ campervan/RV community as you will find. Unlike the Vdub groups, we may tend to have been on this earth for a while. The life experiences we have are so varied, but we share a common aim, to have fun motorhoming.

The one thing we are not is in any way dim, but to the contrary of your views we recognise the value of something good when we see it.

Talking about value brings me to your, IMHO, unsavoury comments which I can only take as being directed personally at Jim, concerning the groups income. Well, I take it you can run something similar for free?

Just as a quick response the IT costs alone to run this site will be phenomenal. You will need two huge beefy servers, both running in some way mirrored disc, capable of fast backup and switchover. That switchover will need a beefy UPS. There will need to be some heavy duty firewall protecting the data, which will need a costly subscription to keep updated to keep the hackers out. The data commissioner does not take kindly to people who willy nilly set up home club systems on a laptop and are then surprised when they get hacked.

Then, there are the trailer loads of tents, cooking kit etc that get towed about the country so members can meet socially. It all appears by magic doesn’t it?

I may not have replied with what some seem regard as a short, or rude response, but I am sober and just as and angry at your pointed allegations that Jim is on the make and conning us all.

If I said what I really thought of you I would break rule 1 myself and be in Coventry. You may not now be around to read this, but if you are, as many of my old trainers used to say, you may wish to reflect on the views of your audience on here, before exiting stage left very quickly.

Oh come off it Jim is racking it in. You should see the new mansion he has bought and the size of his MH .. :D

Mind you he is going to be busy when the grass starts growing ..

And I can confirm that you are in a minority over this, a very small minority.
I knew I would be. It seems OK to engage in playground bullying and finger pointing, denigrating other opinions and being generally rude providing you don't criticise spelling and grammar.
I always understood a forum to be a place of reasoned debate not a place to ridicule those with a different point of view.
In saying all this, I agree with you that rebuttal is tiresome and time consuming and it is sometimes easy to dismiss than revoke but I have to say sarcasm and name calling cannot in my opinion ever be justified on a public forum.
Now I will exit stage left..

@grumps147 great post..

You also have to add in keeping the server admin fed, security, updates, stand alone monitoring system with 24/7 coverage. Not to mention all the software license fees.
Add to that the huge number of hours Jim spends adding new features, services and monitoring reports, posts and threads. Add in a bit more for paying programmers for custom software development and much more. That is all before the amount of time it takes Jim to prepare for each show to set up the awnings, organise bacon butties for everyone... Jim works really hard on this forum and it shows. Friendliest and best forum around by a country mile.

You only have to look at how many people volunteer to help out when needed at rallies and shows to see that this community is amazing.. The people in it are fantastic and it wouldn't have happened without Jim doing all the work he has done... We may occasionally have knock down, last man standing type debates on hugely contentious issues, but I can't think of a single funster I wouldn't help if I was able to and they needed it. Community....

Then you only have to read the posts for a few months to see how many times people have been saved from disaster or huge expense by the advice and assistance given on here. Many many times a year a funster will go out of their way to help another funster. Whether it by getting a part across the country or even the continent. The hive mind in action when it comes to a repair usually gives the best possible answer and a happy camper resulting.. There is no monetary value that can be placed on that.

I am not a social person and this is the first forum I have ever stayed on once I have had my answer. The £15 you pay to join here is not just so you can go on an internet forum, it is to join a very large community of like minded and extremely helpful and knowledgable people and the occassional joker :p

It amazing me why others have to put negative comments on other people’s choices of motorhome manufacturers!

Keeping with my original post
They're really made of the same bits.
Yes some people knock other people's choice but then don't make it public their own choice.
Any ridicule of Bailey or elddis we can only put our view across.
The thing that gets my goat is someone knocking another brand and never owning one or owning one in 1983 and trying to say they're the same now:rolleyes:

I agree if people have had negative experience and want to make others aware fair enough. But I don’t understand why others want to try and belittle people’s choices with sniping comments! After all we all share the same common interest!

How would you suggest responding to someone who apparently registered for the sole purpose of trolling?

I think the question should really be why respond not how respond- simply put, don't rise to the bait and if you think it's trolling and ignore it.
I personally don't agree with the OP but that's not an excuse to rubbish his choice and make snide comments about him personally. This is really the gist of my postings from then on in.
I repeat my view that rudeness is not acceptable on any pubic forum. If the post is deemed to be trolling by the site admin, then they have the right and the duty to remove it entirely to avoid this type of retaliatory nonsense.
Again, stated with the greatest respect and all imho
:)

Generally speaking yes of course but there are limits.

There is an interesting parallel, Jim and myself both left The Dark Side after criticising it strongly and being given a hard time by their Gestapo. But that really was an over moderated ****hole of a place.
