We are considering getting the sides for our Thule wind out awning. We are thinking that it will be easier for when we take our dogs with us. I am a bit confused...not difficult 🤣. There is one advertised on EBay but am not sure if it would fit....

Personally I use a Jormax pet enclosure for our dogs, it is VERY solid construction and the metal rods between the posts at the top make it much stronger than a typical windbreak.

They also do a tiny version that goes along the side of the van to stop the dogs going under!

Takes me about 15-20 minutes to setup!

This looks good but we want something that they can sleep in at night when warm enough.

I bought my quest popup 4 from a fellow funster and our friends from Facebook marketplace. Take a look around as they are often in good condition second hand.

Could you get a small child’s pop-up tent to put inside the Jormax windbreak so the doggies could sleep in it? Just fold it up and put it under the van during the day.

The Spaniel needs crating as we don't trust him not to escape 🤣...mind you then we would be down to one sensible dog 🤔😂

We had a lovely Kampa pro air awning 390xxl when we had the Comanche but it was far too heavy for us to handle, needed dozens of pegs to hold it down properly and actually bent our wind out awning rendering it almost broken.

Since purchasing the Rapido we’ve bought one of these, it’s perfect for us, nice and light at under 8kgs, 8 pegs and it’s up and has built in flyscreens and groundsheet, literally takes 10 mins to put up. It also has a front porch canopy which is good but needs poles at £15

£120 a bargain we think

We’ll I can vouch for 3 owners of these particular awnings, 1 just having spent a 90 day holiday in Spain in horrendous rain and winds who says it stood up well.

We’ve had 4 seats and a table inside ours, it’s drive awayable ( is that a word lol) if needed as well and unless i’m mistaken Decathlon offer an up to 1 years returns policy

BTW £120 includes next day delivery 👍

We have this one from Decathlon. Haven’t used it in anger yet, waiting for the SIL to give it a trial run before they use it on our next trip to IOW…

So....when we first converted our Mercedes Vito we were given a small driveaway awning. I completely forgot that we still have it 😂😂
It will do just what we need. Royal Bleinhem.

It may have helped if the seller knew the awning height.

or even said what his last van was .

We are not bothering with this particular solution now, thanks to the helpful suggestions from Funsters!

Some large commercial sites do not allow gazebo's at the side of units due to site licensing officers banning them and classing them has being a individual unit for fire spacing with them not attached to the unit.

Grasmere9 For Information

After it was clear you were not bidding on it I put this on my watch list, offered him £200 which he declined saying he was going to let it run, then came back to me asking for £300 so I let it run.

Put a bid in at the last moment and won it for £100. Sent him a message asking when he wanted me to pick it up within 5 mins of auction closing and he came back within moments saying that he's just gone to pack it away and found a rip in it do I still want it, not quite sure why he would be packing it away when he's got no reason to have it out

Hi just viewing this thread, not sur who has bid for what. Depending on the size of the rip it may be worth getting a tent/awning repair to quote. Try to get a photo and age of the awning. They can be cheaper then you think.

Hi, I bought an awning from a fellow member with a damaged zip, cost me £80 to have it replaced guess a rip or tear might be the same.

Cool mine is a Vango Galli air, 15 mins to put up, longer to get back in bag even using child labour.......

I thought I’d report back on the awning/safari room/tent thingy we bought from Decathlon and only just tried out….first a few pics of how it looks with our MH:

So now for the pro’s & con’s:

Pro’s:

Cheap - it cost under £300
Quick & easy to erect - well it was for future SIL, I just watched! Main part is inflatable then a couple of roof poles and a few guy ropes
Good size - big enough for 2 adults + 2 kids to sleep in and then after we had a big table and eight of us sitting round it for dinner
Quality - seems good, we will give it a few more goes to see how it lasts
Stand alone or connected - in the pics it is tied at one end to the MH but the flap that goes over the MH can be used to close the end if away from the MH
Keeps the pesky varmints (relatives) out of our precious MH at night - we like our privacy!!
Easily moved - not in pics but we decided to move it a couple of feet away from MH for the last night, took about 3 minutes to reposition by one person.
Stood up to wind and rain - we had two nights where it was quite windy and a couple of hours of rain and no problems at all.

Con’s -

Perfect height for a VW - the end against the MH is a bit low against the hab door of the Hymer, we made it work but a bit of a pain but nothing we couldn’t live with
Flap covered the solar panel - not a massive problem as we were on EHU but if no EHU then would need to be erected slightly differently (see below)
The base isn’t air tight - not a problem for us but as someone who has never done any “tentering” and not being camp I didn’t realise it’s good to have built in ground sheet, the ground sheet for this ties to the main tent body and lips up but that’s it, fine for us though so not a massive con and no complaints from the pesky varmints

All said and done we were all very pleased with it including the pesky varmints who slept in it for 4 nights.

What would/will we do differently next time: line up the edge next to the MH with the extended wind out awning then tie the flap to the awning, the ties release super duper quick so not worried about wind (which is unusual at my age) but means that the solar panel isn’t affected but we still have covered route between tent and MH…I did actually tell SIL to do this but he had chosen to ignore me by the time we returned from the beach.

Overall result - success!!
