I'm an oldbie MH number 10
Has anyone got in use an Avtex soundbar?

My Avtex TV isn't great sound wise and obviously as Haggers is ether getting on a bit or got waxed up ears I don't hear it so well or maybe its' the size of my "road chalet?"
either way, I need to make it louder. So would anyone give me a little review of the Avtex soundbar before I go and spend the £149 on one?

cheers

Sound bar needs 12v supply..
Would I be correct in saying usb is only 5v... In the rare occasion I am actually correct....
Then no..

Thinking of buying an Avtex soundbar. My Avtex TV is fitted into a swing-down bracket in the cab. The bracket encloses the TV so no access to the mounting and I'd have to sit the soundbar elsewhere. Can the Avtex soundbar be powered from the powered 12V USB socket on the TV?

The USB socket on the Avtex TV is 5v not 12V

I made a piggyback cable up to power both our Avtex TV and soundbar from the same 12v power source.
The Avtex Audio mini sound bar. Designed to operate on a 12/24V DC battery and mains voltage means this unit is perfect for use in your caravan, motorhome or boat as well as your home.

Product manual page 11 is the power requirements

I contacted a seller on ebay who made up a dual power supply for us. Nice and neat
<Broken link removed>
And I have this to help support the Firestick
Amazon product ASIN B07K9RR3PKAll works brilliantly
As everyone has said, the Soundbar is a massive improvement but expensive for what it is. Integrates nicely with the TV though.

A lot cheaper than £40 if you make your own, £3.40 each for the correct plugs.

We have had the avtex and replaced it with a Bose Wave system. It was second hand and with the correct cabling ...far better than the avtex we had before. No doubt the avtex sits nice under the tv but we had our wave system on the table just under the tv with the cabling up to the tv and it is by far without a shadow of doubt...superior for its sound. The beauty of the Bose Wave system of course is that when it is not being used for sound from the tv...its a Cd player ad a Digital Radio too. It cost me £135 for its purchase . Its black and sits nicely when we are on site on the table and does the job well

Can't speak for yours but mine is definitely marked 12/24v USB1. I power my Amazon Firestick from it. What I don't know is whether it provides enough power for an Avtex soundbar if i used a USB splitter to connect it along with the Firestick. Can anybody who understands these things advise? The power requirements of the soundbar are:
  • Power Consumption: 12v - 0.75A / 24v - 0.42A
I can power the soundbar from mains when on hookup but good to know what's possible for those times we're not.

Yes, it gets good reviews but unfortunately it won't fit under my TV as it's hung in a case above the cab which blocks access to the mount. Anyway, my query is about the potential to power the soundbar directly from the TV using the 12/24v USB socket on the side of the TV. It already powers my Firestick but it would be conveniuent if I could use a splitter and connect the soundbar to that as well. I just don't know if that's technically feasible.

Rather than USB, can you not do I as suggested above?

It is a great suggestion and would work perfectly... except the only 'always on' 12v cigarette lighter socket I have is at the other end of the MH. The one on the dash immediately below the TV only works with the ignition on. I'm looking to see if there's a convenient solution with what already exists. A splitter for the TV DIN power connection would be ideal but I can't find one for an Avtex.

If you speak to the seller I bought off ebay, he might be able to assist as what I wanted wasn't listed but he knocked it together with a couple of days

Good idea. I've sent him a message. Thank you.

All the 12 v TVs seem to have poor sound quality. We use a Samsung 24“ mains tv (through an inverter) which has a much better sound.
And me -- Samsung all in one cost me around £40 and 40W power and excellent sound.

The £174 12V Avtex is 20W

I've just bought one of these - Short, 50watts output and great reviews.
It even works on 12V

I have one. It sounds wonderful! The volume can be controlled from the TV remote.

Two great minds think alike, but then so do ours! 🙂

I bought one of those a few days ago, 12v cable recently arrived, just need to go and test it in the van now. Worked well on the kitchen/diner tv though, reasonable audio output for circa £34 and no annoying background buzz when using the AUX in cable.

My one arrived today. Looks good and very loud at 50Watts
12v (or 230v power supply) the only down side is there is no screw mountings on it. I'm going to use double sided tape to locate it above the TV

Small, powerful and a bargain at £33.00
