Thinking of getting one, in place of the standard one supplied with the van when new.
Anyone here got one, and does it work ok?
Thanks.

Probably going to sound a bit dense here🙈 but what is a dumb tv?
Was looking to get connection from hotspot on my phone, to then get I-player/apps etc on the tv.
As you can probably gather am a bit of a Luddite where tech comes in🙈🙈

Works great but depends what you want I guess we have the 27”, nice pictures sounds OK but better with the sound bar, we just use the built in smart features so iPlayer, ITV, ch5 etc.

what is a dumb tv
Just a plain old vanilla Tv and use the fire stick connected to a HDMI port and USB port and your hotspot for your smart needs (iPlayer etc)

I use a fire stick with my normal Avtex tv.

Ah, a ‘dumb’ tv does not have ’smart’ features - ie, it cannot connect to the Internet, either by Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable. By adding a Firestick, the ‘dumb’ tv becomes ‘smart’.

edit: beaten to it!

…and connected to an HDMI socket too…..

Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think they’re proper smart, just a bit smart, in that you can get iplayer etc but not Netflix, Prime and such like.
We bought the Avtex Pro and use a Fire Stick.

I made the mistake of thinking that they were "Smart" but they're not really. Unless the latest ones have been upgraded, you can only watch live TV on BBC iPlayer via wifi, all the other wifi channels are catch up only. The full range of live programmes is available on Freeview TV via a terrestrial aerial depending on reception but not what I thought I was buying.
Solution - Amazon Firestick and the very good soundbar, works perfectly. Good 21.5 inch picture quality but only HD not 4K so not worth buying a 4k firestick.
As has been said - you could buy a non smart HD or better still 4k tv and use a firestick, much cheaper.

I believe you are right but of course we don’t all want that stuff ;)

Your not wrong, absolutely correct. I also found it doesn’t automatically connect to WiFi,every time you use it you have to put the password in which is extremely tedious.

If the 4k Firestick is on ‘special offer’, it’s probably worth buying (imho) as it has a faster processor, so responds to the remote control faster……(y)

Yes and I think it has more memory than the standard firestick which helps prevent buffering. There's not that much difference in price especially with the special offers that come around.

I recently bought a sniper 24 inch tv 12-24 volt and 240 as well, full 1080p built in dvd, satellite and freeview receivers. i also use it with a firestick 4k, it also has arc so you can use it with a soundbar, in my case I've connected it to a jbl bar 5.

We just switch ours on and it connects in about 30 seconds all on its own.

One annoyance we have using a Firestick with our Avtex TV is that you cannot use the Firestick remote to control the TV volume as you can with almost all other TV brands. Repeated support requests on the Avtex "support" website are ignored.

I have an Avtex and 4K Firestick but it refused to recognise the I phone hot stop .
The new Smart TV to be released shortly does have the Netflix and I player plus others already installed. Users must subscribe to Netflix etc. The launch of this Smart TV will be at the Feb Show. I doubt there will be some launch deals from selected Avtex Agents there.
I for one will be looking.

Is it the Avtex or the Firestick that doesn’t ‘see’ the iPhone…..?

That's right it doesn't. It's a software problem that they know about but never fixed. Maybe the upgraded model launching at NEC will work.

Just give them a call they are very good(y)

This also has a built in Satellite Receiver. Add this and you can run it on 12volt :

All up about £210 and picture and sound quality surpass the Avtex by some considerable margin - not hard because Avtex are overpriced rubbish!

When you try to connect to the iPhone hotspot with your fire stick……make sure the hotspot page is open on the phone while it is trying to connect….

Bought the LG Smart tv on your recommendation Ninjabob, and have to agree it’s the dogs doodahs compared to the Avtex, and considerably cheaper. Running it from Freesat through our old 85cm Oyster and on board Mifi.

Many thanks Bob for the heads up 👍

The main problem we have found is when are abroad unless you get a vpn the bbc scans and blocks all content to Iplayer as it knows you are not in the UK
