AVTEX - Av they had their day?

So, I bought a 19” Cello.
Very disappointed in the sound quality though the picture seems reasonable
Yes, thats what we found with our Cello so we just use the bluetooth function to a Bose Colour speaker and Mrs McHood is happy. Picture isn't as good as on our fancy Smart TVs at home but we are quite happy with it when us Saddos are catching up with The Affair, etc etc etc.. as to talking to your partner I admire the man who would deliberately interrupt the love of his life in the middle of the latest Casualty...

I think you can watch a little TV in bed at night without being a saddo, or should we be outside appreciating the stars ?
I can't read a book in bed never mind a tv.Bed is for sleeping and other nocturnal activities,,BUSBY???

Do you know if that will work in Europe?
Yes it worked last night in France.... we do not get blocked on any of the services... we are on Vodaphone which I believe uses a uk vpn

How do you stream from iPads and iPhones, thought you would need Apple TV which we have, but that requires 240v hence pointless buying a 12v TV?
Use a Chromecast

I have had Avtex TVs in both my vans but whenever they breakdown I won't replace them with the same they are so far behind the times no one needs a DVD player with today's streaming and the worst thing about them apert from the high price is the stupid speaker at the rear of the tv you need to turn up the volume to hear it at the front but if you go behind the tv to make a coffee in the kitchen you get deafened no they are so far behind technologie wise not for me again

We have an Avtex I think we have only watch it two or three time over the years. We tend to read and play board games. Plus the odd bottle of wine.

Perhaps you should have asked the question on a TV forum.
The nature of this forum is everyone has an answer and an opinion and requests like that do not go well.

Not sure how many, younger, techie, TV forum members would own a motorhome ?

12V TVs are crap, small, expensive, and old tech...period.

Satellite dishes are crap, large, weighty, expensive, and old tech...period.

Good wifi, a quality inverter, and a smart TV is all you need.

Our 32" (240V) Samsung bedroom (smart) TV has been replaced with something bigger and newer.

Hope that I'm not next on that list ! ?

The now defunct 32" will be reinstated and wall mounted on a 180 degree, variable, extendable mount, so viewable without vari-focals, from both the fixed French bed and parallel lounge area.

Embrace new tech, and use it to your advantage.

32" Samsung smart TV in a motorhome and you'll think that you are at home with your 55+" TV...

...pull back the curtains and you'll realise you're somewhere far more interesting, even with BBC News 24 telling you that the end is nigh....

As mentioned.. We have had a 32" in the van for a couple or years now... But until data is more or less free we will continue using a sat system :-)

Oh dear, I feared this would happen...

The TV size should be right for your needs...

The TV source should be right for your needs...

And your TV power supply should be right for your needs...

Jaws...open your eyes, realise that we are 49 years on from that apocryphal, and wrong, movie blockbuster which you so lament...

Struggle with sat in Southern Spain. Can pay for plenty if data at the price of a Sat dish.BUSBY??

To be fair, we do have a proper motorhome, not a tin box with a couple of seats and a sink, and the 32" looks dead right as far as size goes.. and it certainly fits the bill as far as what we need
As mentioned, we do watch an awful lot of telly.. on average its on at least 6 hours a day ( I am addicted to factual or semi-factual programs ), which equates to about 18 gig of data a day which in turn means about 500 gig + a month... and amazingly we rarely watch a film ! (though that is proly age related as we both tend to fall asleep trying to watch a film LOL )

Even right down in Zahora our system works well, apart from BBC or ITV based channels ..
If you spend a £1000 on data over a few years, how much will you get back from data you sell ?
Me, I will get about £500 back for my sat system ! :)
Our system is now about 10 years old, so we are already way ahead in the fiscal stakes

All this streaming is ok right now whilst the data is cheap but what will happen when we have to go back to paying a premium for data in the unlikely event we will leave the eu on our terms??
Me, I can’t get streaming on my firestick to work anyhow, my aerial is crap, so I DO watch dvds. As I’m still working and only able to go abroad a couple of times a year it’s not really worth me getting dedicated mifi, I’m not a Luddite, just thick?

Oooof :imoutahere: Cello are the only UK TV manufacturer and do so for a couple of other makes. They had real failure with their first Traveller brand (viewing angles and sound) but since then have produced very good TVs. This van came with a Visio Plus which is excellent too. Avtex pricing model, IMO, is such that they can provide excellent after-sales service rather than superior products. Just stay away from Apples "suck you in then bleed you dry" pricing. :reel:
I have an avtex, and it recently had a fault. This whilst away in the van.I rang avtex and though 4 years into a 5 year warranty, this was not even discussed. They arranged to have the TV collected same day and returned 48 hours later. Quality, service 100 present!
I smiled at the 'out of date' Android comment, mine is flawless on a £150 phone. Who wants to pay stupid prices for Apple products? I stream movies via my ,MiFi no prob, I also claim to be a 'Techie' at 84 and do my research - Avtex for me every time!

I agree. Over the last 10 years your system has outperformed everything and you've had good value for money. However when mobile data first became available users were limited to about 500mb and now with very large data packages available it will overtake satellite for sure. If you think how companies like Amazon and Netflix work it's data driven not broadcast. Its just progress in the manner of VHS and Betamax, also, laptops don't have a DVD drive now because most content will be streamed and even Sky is upping it's streaming services to compete. Satellite is expensive to broadcast but almost anyone can stream. I listen to radio through an internet app and there are thousands of channels available providing something for every conceivable taste. My personal favourite is Blues Connection, yes there's advertising but the music is continuous.
Streaming with UK registered data cards gives you access to all domestic channels regardless of where you are.

Why pay stupid money for outdated Avtex products? DVD's went out years ago, they have no 'smart' capability, why have a big lump in the back of your TV to make it protrude and add more weight? For the price they charge no wonder they can do great warranty work, a bit like the EU take billions off you and give you millions back, people think that's just great! Someone is paying for that they are not a charity.

Not criticising you, you can do what you want but your comments make no sense.

I am in the market for a TV / Screen and still looking, seen nothing yet that I like, I know it will not be Avtex though, I would use portable screens if were not that there is a bracket screwed to a wall I need to cover and a load of sockets next to it, it reminds me of when we were all tied to our home phones, then cordless came out and was OH WOW! now its mobiles and a different world, who wants to be tied to a TV stuck on a wall, its archaic ;)

Check out 'The Belly locker' on here, it doesn't come up on recent activity and is for members only. I think you'll like it ?

In YOUR opinion Avtex products are out of date but some of us don't believe they are. We have an Avtex TV with built in DVD and it is great, the sound and picture quality is superb, much better than some modern TVs; we do use the DVD sometimes as we still have a PVR with a DVD in it so we can record stuff to DVDs and take them with us so if we want to watch one we can. Unless we actually record via the Avtex we cannot watch stuff off USB, this is the same with a lot of other TVs so we also have a 12v HD PVR which we take with us, we use this record stuff at home that we definitely want to take away to watch, we've never recorded anything whilst away but could if we wanted to without a problem.

This gives us options of what media to watch without being reliant on satellite (don't have one anyway) or an internet connection which is important as many of the places we stop don't have a signal at all, or it's very weak, often we don't have a phone signal either.

Until recently we only had a Three data sim with 40gb data a month, but now we have a Vodafone unlimited phone sim which we tether to, but there are still limitations abroad, so if we go away for 3 months in theory we could get hammered for charges if we go over the monthly allowance or over 2 months continuous use we might get cut off (some plans don't have this limitation but others do), therefore IMV it doesn't make sense to rely totally one one form of 'entertainment' provider, especially for those who are abroad for over 2 months.

So, if you went abroad for over 2 months how would you deal with the restricted provision you'd have where you'd no longer have 'unlimited' data and also a time restriction?

Is he not just winding you all in?
Maybe, maybe not ... we've gotta take pity on lonely soles who feel the need to post stuff like this though, at least it means if we're keeping them 'amused' they're not doing anything more dangerous! ?

Much too old to worry about money..That will be my kids problem when I leave them nothing because I have spent it all.Its BBC and ITV we mainly watch..BUSBY??

We’ve just ordered an Avtex TV for our brand new IH630RD, did I tell you all that it’s silver and that we ordered it at the Malvern show? Mind you it might not be an Avtex TV but I expect it is as that’s what they fitted in our current IH630RD which is gold. It’s only 19 inches in size but I can see it OK so hopefully I’ll be able to see the new one.
I feel so much better now that I’ve shared my experience of Avtex TVs which is that they are fine.
