Avoid Goldcar Hire Car - Along with others

flip Goldcar I wouldn’t give then the steam off my shite!
Cancelled any suggestions went with centreuo last year but too expensive

Zest car hire! They are an agency but bloody good

MY advice is to find a company that offers full, no nonsense comprehensive cover at a good price.

I have always taken out separately damage waiver policies. Done it dozens of times in various parts of the world from Europe to the Carribbean. It's never been a problem but then again I've never had an issue with car hire companies or the cars. I was already aware of Goldcars reputation from newspaper and radio articles so have never been tempted to go there.

Some of my best hire experiences have been from companies in Spain and Greece where the cars are piles of junk. You cannot possiblity make them worse!

One company did try to rip me off in the UK at Heathrow. They claimed there was no insurance included at all and therefore I couldn't take the car unless I paid a couple of hundred on top of what I had paid the internet company that I had booked the car through. I just walked away and got the train to Milton Keynes (where I was going) and picked a hire car up there.

So, personally I would still do the purchase your own damage waiver ins. It is only £40 a year and saves hundreds per hire.

Well folks arrived in Lisbon this morning at 10.30 ish walked straight past the hire car rep at the airport because his sign said rentcar not zest. The car hire company then phoned me to tell me where the rep was 👍😁
The Portuguese gentleman spoke perfect English and a more pleasant handover I’ve yet to have. Everything explained and a 7500 km old Peugeot 208 is ours for the duration😁
Zest 10/10
Rentcar rep 11/10
Can only recommend👍😁😎🥳

One of my best car hire experiences was in Lisbon. Cheap and quick with the rep meeting us in the airport, signing the forms and car waiting.

VXman can I have more details of your insurance as £40 for a year sounds great never thought of doing it that way

Not sure if I mentioned it. €25,000 included with my American Express insurance at the time

At ALC I've used, Record, Centauro, Goldcar and another whose name I can't recall. They'll all try to shaft you over some minor scratch or other unless you take their overpriced comprehensive insurance. Having sold the apartment, I don't have that aggro anymore.

It doesn't matter who you use as long as you buy their insurance, we had trouble with Hertz at Stansted, simply because we didn't buy their insurance, I had to find the car cleaner to point out the damage as he cleaned it the night before. 🙄
One of our daughters has used Record go rent a car from Alicante a couple of times without problems. 😁 Bob.

I used centurao last year didn't take their insurance and had no issues but that was benidorm office.
Not to worry I will sort it out when I get there thanks for all the comments and suggestions
