Looking to buy a campervan. Interested in the v line models.. Anyone got one pros and cons. also are they well insulated as we go away for the winter. Thanks

There are a few threads on the Autotrail Section in 'British Vans', below, which may be of help.

Note though: If you buy an AT V-line then you may also need to acquire some very strong sticky tape to help prevent the windows and skylights from dropping off or blowing out.

Yes, not heard good reports. Roof leaks seem very common in the raised roof version. How is that possible on a panel van? And windows distorting and fogging. Their QA does not seem to work there. I believe they have stopped offering the raised roof version, and the windows are no longer tinted, which may have solved the problem. Their guarantee system does seem to work eventually, but you shouldn't need it, they should come out of the factory OK in the first place. Lovely van, otherwise. That is just my opinion, having heard many owners complain. My insurance quote arrived entitled "Your Auto-Trial quote". No comment.

Yes, that's what I bought. Very good. But mine was made in Italy. Properly.

We recently purchased a new Vline 635Se - purely because it was the layout we wanted/needed with two dogs.
Otherwise I would have gone for a Globecar or similar, as they are better insulated, the habitation electrics are NOT automatically switched of when the engine starts - and I think their windows stay on!:)

I am looking for a van that we can sleep in length ways as a double bed with back lounge. No climbing over each other to go to loo during the night. Also lift up door at back. not seen any on other makes.

The length ways bed - and opening rear doors, was what appealed to us, as well as having a small 'lounge' area at the front. It fit the bill - so went with it.
Like you we could not find another 'van' with this combination. I think every van has its compromises, so it comes down to what fits your requirements at the time. You just need to balance the various needs (insulation, build quality etc) with how you would use it. Good luck and I hope you find a good one!

Another 635SE here. Have been thrilled with it, but one of the main reasons for us, was that you can do this:-

Which model are you interested in
As far as I know, the 635 is the only one you can sleep lengthways in, but that has barn doors not a tailgate- could be wrong

You can sleep length ways in the the 635 or the 636 model options.. You can also sleep length ways in the 635 Sport model..

Unless you are 7ft tall of course!

Here we go again...:D
If you understood the desgin & build quality of German vans you wouldn't make such a stupid statement. :)
For example nearly all German PVC's have an inboard water tank, if the waste or water tank is underslung it will be in an insulated enclosure heated by the blow air system likewise the toilet cassette is normally heated. Insulation levels are are far superiour. UK PVC's are generally 3 season vans where as German vans are 4 season designed to be taken up into the mountains on skiing trips. Don't get me started on the undersized wiring in UK vans.
A friend has an Autosleeper the insulation levels are pathetic, you can reach down behind some panels and feel just bear metal of the outer shell. He has had to rewire it due to volt drops on the undersized wiring, not fit for purpose.

Would I buy another British built van ? Not a chance, but my wife would as they look nice and shiny !
As most motorhome owners are moving from a caravan and will never really use a motorhome in anger the manufacturers get away with supplying crap just as they do with caravans.
We have just bought a new Hymer , still crap just better crap than most .

Its like a cracked record the German thing though
Not everyone can afford/justify a new German motorhome
Not everone wants to buy used

So do the rest( majority) do without?

I have NEVER disagreed with the quality argument ( in public) but my what a price more they are
And BTW a lot of people, like swallows, head south for the winter and dont mind a jot if its freezing in Stockholm

It's the fact that with a little thought and care not necessarily increasing cost most problems could be solved.
Last winter everyone I know in a British van had either frozen pipes , tanks , pumps , waste pipes , tanks etc .
We didn't in an Italian built van and then German.
Yes they should be made to go without or taken to a caravan dealers ;)

We were very glad to be cosy and warm in our German van, when driving down through France and Spain, last winter. It was b****y freezing!
The insulation also works in the hot weather - keeping the van reasonably cool. Particularly important to us, as we have a dog.

Buy sensibly don't pay silly UK prices, import yourself and a German van won't cost that much. On our 3rd Hymer we have imported ourselves.

We have hijacked@woodstock s post really
