I'm a newbie
Okay, here we go again. Just been on a video call with Wrightington Motors, Wigan. They have this 2003 AS Executive coming with a few extras on it that I was wanting. Seems good price, MOT History appears good but couple of advisories on last MOT.

What do you think funsters ...

Just nipping out now so will pick this up when I get back.

Many thanks :giggle:

It would be lovely if someone was able to look with you if only to make you aware of what you need to spend on it
on a positive maybe someone could actually speak to the seller on the phone on your behalf .
on another note you can always feel free to walk away from a van thats for sale as there will be another one
It is a minefield even for people who are experienced
I think anyone including myself who buys an older van is buying a shell on wheels
If i give you an example a 20yrs olsd van thats looked after thats not rusty is likely to have original fridge, water heater and gas heating. So if working well even though 20yrs old they will break so expect to sometime replace them
My previous van was 26 years old and still had all original fittings which worked perfectly.

When I bought my current van 20 years old the fridge didn't work as it had been laid up for 12 years. However the fridge I fitted in it came out a 5 year old van and the 240v side of it has failed

So age isn't everything. New stuff actually tends to break more often than older stuff.

You can't get the quality these days in new stuff unfortunately

Do you know if there is any information regarding cam belt replacement in the service history ? If there is not , it may be worth allowing for a replacement cam belt if you decide to purchase the Motorhome. (or any other )
I asked about Cambelt and water pump changes in last couple of vans I was thinking of but it slipped my mind when I spoke with this dealer, he certainly didn't mention it and would be important to find out. Many thanks fir the reminder 😊

Hi all, Well the doubts started niggling away at me again, not so much the van but the seller so I have cancelled the viewing for tomorrow.

I have seen a number of vans at Motorland Motorhomes online that look good and would suit me just fine, those I am interested start from about £18k and go up, up and up :X3: Trying NOT to get carried away on price but now thinking, GOOD GRIEF all this hassle just trying to get my 1st van ... it better be the right one as can't see me wanting the trials and tribulations of changing it anytime soon, in fact a van for life would be right up my street ;)

I am keeping all your helpful comments in mind, and the kind funster who offered to join me for the last now cancelled viewing will be with me so feeling okay, not sure which day we will be viewing as still be be arranged. Hopefully I will have something good to report later this week , fingers crossed :giggle:

If you're unsure its better to walk away. There's no shortage of motorhomes out there for sale at present , for a first van I'd say if you can view as many as possible , drive a few too. And then when you know which models suit you try and find one for sale privately. The warranties on older vans from dealers are often worthless. They buy cheap and sell dear , most know nothing about the vehicle they're selling , find a good privately owned van with a loving owner who can give you good knowledge of the van

Oh and make sure you try the bed in every van you view ,there's nothing worse than an uncomfortable bed , some of the vans require cushion jenga to make a bed ,some even involve the front seats . The one autosleeper I had required both and it was a great van but an uncomfortable bed.

JessieT - I’ve visited Motorland Motorhomes (Lytham St Annes) on a couple of occasions but not bought from them. It’s a big site and when I visited they had quite a selection varying in price.
Good luck

You will get there. It’s a big purchase so you are right to be cautious.

Just be careful you don’t get conned. Anyone asking for money upfront without you seeing the van is scamming you. A friend of mine lost £10 grand and he’s a policeman!

I have dealt with Moorlands too, very friendly and knowledgable people.
I have found them quite good to deal with.
As has been said plenty available to deal.
Cheers, Dave
