Auto levellers. Shall we ?

Tell me why does your MH have to be dead level when they are
parked up ?

1/ We like sleeping in/on a level bed,
2/ We don't like walking uphill to get to the bathroom, we don't in our house so why in our second home,
3/ The shower drains properly as it was designed to,
4/ The sink drains as it should,
5/ Cupboard door don't swing wildly due to gravity.

As @funflair listed, plus for us the van is steady to walk around in as I'm a lite sleeper and Yvette getting up and going to the loo at night with out the jacks deployed wakes me up.

I was thinking of having these put on my MH. However having read your posts here, I come to the conclusion they will take my MH's weight limit sky high, and cost me more than I want to fork out.

So armed with all this info, I have decided to use the two spare wheel changing jacks I have, to take the body weight and adjust height position accordingly. The weight of these jacks are minimal, and can be easily used.

Your professional thoughts and obviously opinions will be of value.

Flook.

You must be pretty close to the limit now.

I haven’t got them and don’t want/need them, and I quite like a bit of rocking in the wind (other causes are available;)).
But........if I was older or a bit crotchety, and had the dosh I would have them, for the reasons stated by others. For example: wilding, punctures etc.
I believe they may also add an element of security.
Agree atm whilst young better things to spend money on but once retired see towards top of wish list along with air suspension

Martin, not really. Just reading they are heavy these extra legs, more heavier than two jacks combined.

Don't do that. You are in danger of toppling off the jacks, either by strong winds or even by movements within the van. There's nothing to stop sideways movement, where as hydraulic jacks are fixed rigidly to the chassis.
Nice idea, though.

Weight of system is around 50kg.

Mmmmmm, its the weight and a potential cost in a very limited OAP budget.

I find using a much bigger wine glass & only half filling it, so it doesn't spill, solves all my levelling problems:)

It would be easier to use ramps than jacks. We chose ours because of ease of use. Additional weight was about 50kg but deduct from that the weight of the wheel changing jack and ramps that we no longer needed.

Weights of EP system for motorhomes up to 5tonnes 55kg
5 to 7.49 tonnes 65kg
7.49 to 10. Tonnes. 70kg

I would have thought, the heavier the MH, the stronger therefore heavier support would be required

The levellers themselves are larger for the heavier motorhomes.

Yes but I wasn't aware there were different jacks. Wondered what he actual difference was.

I see you all followed my post. So I weren't far out then, I just used my common sense.

The HPC system is only 40-45kg, much lighter than E&P, because they have Aluminium bodies, no ‘brain box’ use more modern electronics and include phone app operation rather than a remote control. I think E&P have introduced a phone app recently.
Don’t forget you can ditch your jack, even the standard Fiat one weighs around 10kg.

I am sure they are heavier than two jacks but no comparison really.

If your motorhome is fitted with rear steadies you can also take them off, saves another 3 to 4 kg. Every little helps(y)

It's alright saying you can offset weight of system by not needing jacks but if you do wish to use it for tyre changing etc; then you need axle stands as a back up.

Why? The levellers are much more reliable than the Fiat jack that comes with most motorhomes. And i have never seen a professional tyre fitter double up with an axle stand.

I think I would trust the hydraulic jacks way more than the standard scissor jack and how many people carry axle stands as well a jack.
I would be happy to change a tyre using the hydraulic jacks without axle stands. We’ve used them for about three and half months of last year and they never move.
