Filtering is perfectly legal. I did a BikeSafe course on a motorcycle and was encouraged to do it by the copper that was sitting on my arse for 2 days. What's the difference the rules are the same?
You have no entitement to overtake on the inside. When you exit your house with a bike you have 2 choices. stay on the pavement walking it as a pedestrian or use the road.
Once in the road you are subject to the same rules as cars ,vans, & motrobikes. No overtaking on the inside & that incldes what is laughinly called "filtering" - ant to overtake it is indicate & down the outside.
To be fair “filtering” is not passing on the inside. It is moving between two lanes of standing or very slow moving traffic. Passing a single lane of standing or slow moving traffic is overtaking. If the copper that was sitting on your arse for two days encouraged you to pass between the curb and a line of traffic he was wrong.Filtering is perfectly legal. If I left Eurotunnel and headed straight for Belgium on the A16 would I have entered any areas en route that I would need to display the stickers?Only required for Urban areas, I try to avoid them on holiday.
Riding through the red light is wrong (I just hop off and walk it across the crossing). But just because the car driver is stuck in traffic that's predominately made of cars, it doesn't mean the cyclist has to be too.Ah, I drive and cycle as well. At the risk of starting ANOTHER one of my famous (in my own mind) contentious discussions, I sometimes can't understand why cyclists insist on going around a vehicle which has just overtaken them only to be stopped by a traffic light. When the light goes green I would rather that vehicle still be in front of me as that's one less that can kill me. Unless your one of those cyclists that then rides through a red light? I had this happen to me just a while ago, three times at three different traffic lights, same cyclist only me and him on the road, each time I had to trail along behind him until it was safe to pass. Why? If I had been someone prone to road rage I would probably been less careful when passing the third time !
I guess if it saves one life it must be worth itHaving just arrived in France it would appear from our Dutch neighbours that all Motor Motorhomes exceeding 3.500 kg GVW driving in France since January 2021. MUST display the ‘Attention Angles Morts’ signs on both Left & Right hand front and Right hand rear of the vehicle. Apparently these offences of failing to display these signs are punishable by fines either on the spot or by post ( or the guillotine ) ‘when your vehicle being captured on cameras’
We were lucky that our Dutch neighbours had a spare set which they kindly sold to us at cost ‘3 = £10’ available on line and guaranteed to make your camper look like a 40 tonne artic even if you have cameras all round.
Don't think so.If I left Eurotunnel and headed straight for Belgium on the A16 would I have entered any areas en route that I would need to display the stickers?![]()
To protect the cyclist , you shouldn’t be on the inside of a large vehicle, it’s dangerous, either stay behind it or if there is a cycle box at the lights, overtake on the drivers side and get in the box .It's true that a lot of cyclists don't know the rules of the road. But a lot of drivers don't understand why cyclists do what they do, or understand the effect they have on cyclist because they don't have a lot of experience cycling on the road.
E.g. it's very frustrating to be riding towards lights, to be overtaken by a vehicle that then immediately hugs the kerb, so when the light change to red I have to go around them. I'm within my rights to go past you, so why did you block me?
You have an A Class a magnetic one won't be any good.Does anyone know if you can buy a magnetic label........ don't wish to break the law, but, don't want it on my van for ever ???

Cycle prophesancy test, yeah I know that's not the spelling but the closest I can get, yeah did that in the sixties, my kids in the seventies and eighties..Times and traffic density and behaviour have changed dramatically , its time that cyclists should have to study and take a test , I did one at school many decades ago , in order to be able to take my cycle to school ?![]()
Just to be clear, do you think a sticker will prevent this? For the most part it’s turning right in France that is the issue, the same problem as turning left in UK. The cyclist ‘problem’ is on your near side.
As right hand drive vehicles we have a distinct advantage in France for turning right as cyclists would be on our offside and much easier to see than our left hand drive counterparts.
We all consider ourselves good drivers and everybody else is an idiot. Those ‘idiots’ also consider themselves good drivers.
We all have a part to play and frankly it’s no consolation to me that I squash someone on a bike with my 4 ton van because he/she was ‘stupid’ enough to be in the wrong place.
I think we should go one more..... the cyclists should have a yellow jacket with their insurance Co & number stamped on it..... A friend of mine had to brake quickly, the cyclist behind went into his rear but then sped off.... cost him a couple of hundred for repairs !!!! do get annoyed ( and have done it myself) when am driving along a narrow road and a long line of cars with a cyclist in the frontTimes and traffic density and behaviour have changed dramatically , its time that cyclists should have to study and take a test , I did one at school many decades ago , in order to be able to take my cycle to school ?![]()
Because thats my choice !!Why?
I love France, however, the way that Macron has treated us ( just because we got what we wanted) I would fill up before getting on the ferry and drive down to Irun where I can fill up ( not passing a penny piece to France) then have a lovely holiday in SpainAs far as I’m concerned it’s another reason not to drive into France. 1st breathalyser kits now this. Portsmouth to Santander for me.
For the most part ‘we’ are getting the hump because we will potentially sticking something brightly coloured on the paintwork of our pride and joy. ‘We’ are a very small part of a very big picture and it’s worth considering that we have some rules here that the Europeans will probably find incredulous. That aside cast your mind back to when the orange and yellow warning chevrons appeared on the back of wide and long vehicles. I suspect now that consciously most people don’t even see them but subconsciously they do and possibly adjust their behaviour appropriately. We will never know whether cyclists or anybody else will acknowledge these signs until there’s either a lack of them and a collision happens with the ensuing blame game happening or more likely a lorry driver drives over somebody and then says ‘well I had the sign there and they chose to ignore it’Just to be clear, do you think a sticker will prevent this?
It already is adopted here, citizen kahn has gold plated it my making all hgv,s operating within M25 have an approved camera and sensors system fitted or face fines. The firm I do my p/t work for has stopped accepting work within the M25, I'm pretty sure other independents are doi g similar. For the most part ‘we’ are getting the hump because we will potentially sticking something brightly coloured on the paintwork of our pride and joy. ‘We’ are a very small part of a very big picture and it’s worth considering that we have some rules here that the Europeans will probably find incredulous. I’ve packed in now but when I was a fleet driver trainer it never ceased to amaze me the amount of my ‘students’ that were generally long term drivers that considered everybody else as an idiot but chose to get close to those ‘idiots’ which frankly I found more idiotic. I myself will have magnetic ones for my cab and yet to sort the rear and will take them on and off if I enter/leave urban areas where I’m more likely to encounter pedestrians and cyclists and going at slower speeds where they won’t get blown off. I’ve no doubt my answer will create discussion but we all have our own agenda and no amount of jumping up and down is going to change French law and pointless saying it’s them having a go at us Brits because it equally applies to the rest of the European nations when they transit France. Don’t be surprised if it gets adopted elsewhere, maybe even here!
I still dont understand how any cyclist that apparently cant see large vehicles is going to find that a 12x 8 sticker suddenly makes them visible again.
A better plan would be to require bicycles to have identification stickers so the small reckless element can be held to account.

The amount of people stabbed to death in London is much, much higher than those killed on the road by lorries inside the M25 and yet he sticks his head in the sand with that one.
