The company just has £98 in assets. Is that a bit strange?

Not without knowing anything else. The company owes 34k that might mean they owe VAT or PAYE or wages.

But it could just as easily be Corportation tax that it owes, which would mean they made a tidy profit. With Micro accounts, no one knows but the company and the tax man.

Thanks
I thought as much

If they had the right van at the right price I wouldn't let those accounts put me off. They have been around a lot longer than some dealers. Vans of the age they are selling need a good inspection anyway. Come back with any van specific questions if you have them (y)

Thanks for all the feed back
They have around 30 vans of their website
www.atcgeneraltrading.com
But when I made contact Tahir Ather Chaudhry says the van is in Poole in storage
50% deposit paid and he'll deliver it to my door for my '48hr' inspection
If I don't like he says he'll refund the 50%
Sounds wild & dangerous to be honest

That is a strange way to do business.

My advice never put so much as a tenner deposit on a van that you haven't thoroughly inspected and have every intention of buying (y)

100% it's a SCAM!

Find a motorhome 'for sale' on the site where you can see the number plate YX21 EFM is one example.

Do a google search for the number plate and select 'images' only.
YX21 EFM appears to be in a hire fleet and can be rented today. here.

Bung me £50 in used fivers and I'll find you a few more!

NEVER part with money as a 'deposit' without actually touching the vehicle and proving to yourself it's a legitimate seller.
Always get a AA or RAC inspection done, (which will always check ownership, debts etc).
The money it costs is small in comparison to what you can lose!

I've never been able to glean any meaningful information from micro entity accounts. Things are changing soon I believe and small companies are going to have to post a profit and loss report with their annual accounts. Now that will make interesting reading for many.

Good and about time.

My accountant posts P&L accounts in reasonable detail to companies house.

When I’ve mentioned about others posting almost nothing they just say…. Well you’ve got nothing to hide so why not be open and transparent?

Works for me. 👍👍

There are a lot of red flags re this company. I'd love to be proven wrong... We have had a similar experience when attempting to purchase, i.e. asking for 50% deposit and van being in storage in Poole so not able to view until delivery (I would not purchase a car without seeing and test driving it first)... my gut is saying steer very clear.
They are also difficult to contact, communicate via email (not unheard of), not able to speak directly. Things just don't add up.

I have not been able to find any positive feedback from customers.

Experian say this. Ive seen a lot worse TBH.
And they have been listed for a good few years. Id look at possibly buying but wont leave a deposit up front. Seems like car dealers or summat got involved with mtotorhomes

Motorhoming since 2018.
If he/they are genuine they’ll be happy to show you the vehicle.

Having said that it does sound like a similar scam to which my neighbour very nearly fell for, same deposit requirement £7k, only that time the vehicle was in storage at Gt Yarmouth luckily an hours drive away. When my neighbour suggested he drive up and meet the seller (a female) or at least have a look at the vehicle, the seller hanged their tact saying they have someone from Ireland who was coming to look at it and has paid the refundable deposit, if he doesn’t want it she’ll call back. Guess what, never heard another dickie bird.
